The Eternal (Timeless) God

PS 90.2; DT 33.27 2C. Eternal (timeless, enduring) There never was time when God did not exist. He is Author of the experience we know as time and one day time will end after all things foretold in the scriptures come to pass. Then the created world will enter the eternal state.

Psalm 90:2 MOSES has a great deal to teach us about time:

Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. 1. God has ordained Time.

Also v. 12: So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. 2. Time Teaches Sober Living.

v. 17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. 3. Time Reveals a Reward for Sober Living

Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ‘Destroy!’

PS 102.23-28; PS 39.4-5; Eph 5.16; Col 4.15

Psalm 102:23-28

He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days.

[24] I said, "O my God, Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are throughout all generations.

[25] Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

[26] They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed.

[27] But You are the same, And Your years will have no end.

[28] The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You."

Psalm 39:4-5

"Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.

[5] Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah.

Application:

His years have no end! My years, while I’m mortal are temporary and passing away in a very brief period. While I am on earth- I must convert time into that which is eternal in value.

I must redeem time because of the evil around me, since evil can turn a person’s time into eternal suffering.

Eph. 5.16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Col. 4.5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.

Meditations on time

Time began, for man, when he sinned in the garden. Before that he was immortal.
