God’s Works (Part 2): Earthly Blessings

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

 Mr. C. Pat Lanyon

Earthly Blessings as Spiritual Works of God in Relation to Prayer

Review: 1C.3D. Preparation for Service, 4. Testing of God for that Service, 5. Leadership Enablement. 6. The Friendship of God, 7. Privilege to Serve the Almighty God, 8. Inheritance from God assured to Believers.

From the Prayer Notebook:

PP 4.19; EP 3.20 2C. Earthly Possessions (temporal)

Philippians 4:19

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

God supplies all needs plus more: exceeding abundance beyond!

Ephes. 3:20

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

My earthly possessions for which I am extremely grateful:

1.

2.

3.

What this Section Means about Praying through the Lord’s Prayer:

God, later in the model prayer as we shall see, reminds us that ‘daily’ is His way of providing our "needs" – ‘daily bread.’ But, in truth, we see that God is generous to us! He gives us far more than our absolute’s require: Adam and Eve had in the Garden prepared for them every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;

Gen 2. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 2.16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: [except ONE!]

The Psalmist was reminded of what he had because of his obedience to God’s "precepts"

Psalm 119.56 This I had, because I kept thy precepts.

One day as I read this verse I realized all the things that I then possessed – I began a list of those things I owned – were things I had because I had obeyed God’s Word and had received God’s blessings because of God’s favor on my life. If I had not obeyed God’s will through the years, I would not have the same valuable things I have today.

Why not write a list of things you possess and see if any of those are because of choices you’ve made that pleased God?

Application:

Make a list of EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER OWNED, and how long you enjoyed it, and then think about what God had to do to enable you to come to possess it and furthermore even to enjoy it!

Example: 1. Car. What I needed to possess it. A. A job with health to work it to make money to buy the car. B. a body that could drive it. C. A mind that could understand driving laws and pass a test to get a driver’s license. D. Senses to enjoy the pleasures of riding or driving in it: feel( cannot sit in the seat if it is spikes!), sight (cannot drive it if I cannot see!), touch (cannot steer without hands!), hearing (does it run right?)
