Tuesday Bible Study Notes

Westside Care Center Tuesday, September 19, 2006

 Mr. C. Pat Lanyon

Definition and Notes: | From the Prayer Notebook: | The Biblical Reasons for Evangelization | APPLICATIONS

Review: 1b. Salvation: Entering the kingdom requires a salvation from sin’s nature, and an appreciation of that saving work done by Christ. We need to become trusting as little children before we can enter His Kingdom

Significant Scripture passages:

LK 10.2; MK 16.15

Mt 24.14; 25.32; Eph 4.11; 2Pe 3:9; Mr 13.10; Mt 28.19; Ps 86.9

Definition and Notes: The New Testament has teaching about the command to witness and also the need to bring other laborers into that work. The Bible is filled with suggestions of this great work each one in H is kingdom is expected to do.

Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

‘The evangelist:’ What does it mean to evangelize?

The word’s meaning as in the New Testament:

1) a bringer of good tidings, an evangelist

2) the name given to the NT heralds of salvation through Christ who are not apostles

3) the office of evangelist, possibly a function seen as performed by New Testament individuals

The root word’s meaning:

1) to bring good news, to announce glad tidings

1b) in the NT used especially of the glad tidings of the coming kingdom of God, and of the salvation to be obtained in it through Christ, and of what relates to this salvation

1c) glad tidings are brought to one, one has glad tidings proclaimed to him

1d) to proclaim glad tidings

From the Prayer Notebook:

LK 10.2; MK 16.15 2B. EVANGELIZATION – You would send more laborers to reach them.

Luke 10:2

Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

Mark 16:15

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

The Biblical Reasons for Evangelization

  • 1. A horrible end is coming for all those who are not in God’s Kingdom

Mat 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Mt 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

  • 2. God commands us to pray for more laborers, meaning a) He will call them, b) They should consider going as their human responsibility to God for His kingdom, c) That responsibility involves going, training, and baptizing all who believe.

Lk 10:2 Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

Mt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

  • 3. God is not willing that anyone dies without salvation for entering His kingdom

Ps 86:9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us_ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Mr 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Re 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

  • 4. God genuinely desires all to become part of His kingdom and receive the healing it brings.

Ps 67:2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

Ga 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

  • 5. A day is coming when multitudes will come into His kingdom.

Isa 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

  • 6. Everyone is allowed an opportunity to hear, and believing, thus, enter His kingdom.

Mt 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

  • 7. God has ordained offices to do this: Pastors, Evangelists, Deacons and Believers.

The office of ‘Evangelist:’

Ac 21:8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

2Ti 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

APPLICATIONS:

1. Pray for more laborers: Pray for any people you know to surrender to God’s call to evangelize, fathers, mothers, children, brothers, sisters, friends, coworkers, ...anyone!

2. Expect God to call you into some aspect of evangelism for His Kingdom.

3. Be willing to prepare for that work.

4. Submit to others who teach you about His Evangelism: Pastors, Evangelists, Deacons, Believers

5. Endure afflictions God sends, and live so that others can see proof of your evangelizing.
