9 Evidences of Holy Spirit's filling: [This document's url: www.aprayernotebook.net/each1helps1/docs/9signsHolySpirit.txt] 9 Signs When the Holy Spirit Enters You The presence of the Holy Spirit.. How do you know He dwells in you? Rom 8:9 "But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." A) The presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer is transformative. John 14:15-17 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you, and shall be in you." (It's steady undeniable change, over time. The way you process life changes. You feel it in your heart, mind and soul. You see the world differently. Holy Spirit living is the promise for believers.) B) The Presence of the Holy Spirit empowered some people in the Old Testament for certain tasks. But everything changed with Jesus. He promised the Spirit of truth forever. The apostles had been scared and confused. But on Pentecost in Acts 2, they were filled with courage, clarity and boldness, Holy Spirit power. Rom 8:11 "But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (make alive) our mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you." (Fear was turned to courage; confusion to divine clarity; weakness to power and they gained assurance of purpose. Same Spirit is in us. == We will now look at 9 signs that indicate the presence of the Holy Spirit within the Believer: 1. We have supernatural peace in the midst of a storm: Mark 4:37-39 Jesus had said, "˜Let us pass over unto the other side.' "And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And He (Jesus) was in the back part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awoke Him, and said unto Him, "˜Master, care not that we perish?' And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, "˜Peace, be still.' And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." Jesus calmed the storm but the real storm was inside. Their fear showed a lack of trust. Jesus knew who was in control. John 14:27 Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (The Holy Spirit gives us a heart, not shaken by the world's trials. He empowers us to go calmly through the trial and gives us peace as we lean on Him. Paul instructed us in Phil 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." 2. We have love that goes beyond the natural: We are to love those who make our life difficult. Example of Stephen in Acts 6-7 whom they stoned to death as he said, "˜Lord Jesus receive My Spirit' As he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, "˜Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.' And when he had said this, he fell asleep [died]." In Luke23:34, "Jesus said on the cross, "˜Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.."' The Holy Spirit puts love, kindness, patience and forgiveness in our hearts. He softens our hearts. Our heart is different. Eph 4:32 "And be you kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you." Gal 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meek- ness, temperance.." Hate or bitterness grieves and blocks the Holy Spirit" (Eph 4:30). 3. We have a desire for holiness "“ a turning from sin: John 16:8 "And when He [the Holy Spirit] is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:" (It is a deep internal conviction. God is working. The Holy Spirit moved in.) In Luke 19 we see the conviction of the tax collector, Zaccheus, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him 4fold." Rom 8:13-14 "For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (The flesh wants comfort and control. It's never too late to repent. God is waiting to set you free.) 1Jn 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He s faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 4. We have a hunger and thirst for God's Word: Heb 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (We gain an unshakable desire to understand and live it as the disciples on the road to Emmaus.) in Luke 24:32 "And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the Scriptures?" Whatever feeds your soul shapes it.) John 14:26 "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." In Matt 4:4 Jesus answered the tempter, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God [His Word]." 5. We have a heart full of gratitude and worship even in hard times: 1Thes 5:18 "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." Acts 16:25-26 "And at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake.. and their chains fell off." Rom 8:28 (Don't ask why but ask What is God teaching me? True gratitude is a right attitude that pleases God. Worship is a lifestyle of constant praise toward God. 6. We have sensitivity to the voice of God- the Holy Spirit as a deep personal voice: In 1Sam 3 God spoke to the child Samuel. Sometimes we think that the voice of God is just a random thought. It is not easy to recognize. We must make room for God's voice. John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me:" Mark 1:35 "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he [Jesus] went out, and departed into a solitary place and there prayed." 1Cor 14:33 "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." (The voice of God will never contradict the Bible. It brings peace.) Heb 3:15 "..Today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation." 7. We have visible transformation-evidence in our character: Matt 7:16 Jesus taught, "You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" At Pentecost, Acts 2:36-38, we see impulsive Peter who boldly preached. "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus, whom you have crucified both Lord and Christ." "They said, "˜Men and brethren, what shall we do?' "Then Peter said unto them, "˜Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."' Old habits lose their grip. It's a process like a sculptor. True faith brings transformation. 2Cor 3:18 "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."Jm 2:17 "Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead.." 8. We have boldness to share the Gospel: Acts 4:20 "For we cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard." (Believe and tell the Good News of Christ. We must have conviction and tell what Christ has done in our life. Luke 12:12 "For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say." Acts 4:29 "And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto your servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy Word;" 9. We have deep spiritual discernment: ability to recognize what comes from God. 1Jn 4:1-4 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know you the Spirit of God: Every Spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. You are of God, little children; and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." 2Cor 11:13-14 "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." (Stay in God's Word and prayer and listen when God says that's not for you.) Jm 4:8 "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands you sinners; and Purify your hearts, you double-minded." Luke 11:13 (Seek more of the Holy Spirit in your life.) "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him." (in prayer) Eph 5:18 "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." Acts 3:19 "Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" Acts 5:32 "And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God has given to them that obey Him."
