How We Began

Cleaning has been a life-long pleasure for me, yet unrealized until I moved to Connecticut in 1983 to assist a man I met in school plant a church in the East Hartford vicinity.

Glory Carpet Cleaning Service grew in 1991 originally out of Glory Cleaning Service, begun in November 1986. That week, after part-time cleaning during school in 1977 in Chattanooga, TN, and full time cleaning floors in 1983 in a rest home in Windsor, CT, I began to think about the possibility of cleaning for myself. I thought I would try my own business. I had worked in several places before where the service was not satisfactory.

After a part-time initial 11 month period, I decided to try full time commitment in October, 1987. That first full time day the stock market crashed! But I went determined not to quit and in 8 weeks I was able to sign on 8 accounts, and had an average 8 hours per day of work. I then stopped canvassing and began servicing those accounts the best way I knew how then.

Then came marriage into my life. I have put more info here on that if you're interested. It is the greatest blessing of my life, for my wife has tremendously helped me to become the success I am.

Maintaining acceptable service has since meant several momentous events, and the investment each has required:

In 1988, employees were added;
In 1989 I purchased portable carpet extraction equipment;
In 1991, certification came with what is now the IICRC (I became, over the next two years, firm and technician certified in 7 different areas of Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning);
In 1993, I saw the value of Association Membership in the NEIRC;
In 1994 I stepped into the purchase of a truck-mounted cleaning system; and in
1995 I applied and received my present attainment of 'Master Textile Cleaner' Technician status.

We advertise two themes: 1) Extraction Excellence and 2) We Love to Clean, Let Us Show You.

These themes arise out of my purpose to abide by principles found in the Bible:

1) Philippians 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

and 2)Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

I believe that abiding by eternal principles found in this Book of all Books will result in riches and rewards beyond imagination and eternal in quality.

The name GLORY is derived from the verse mentioned above and, originally from: 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Anyone further interested in the Bible is welcome to read my tract written in 1996: A Simple Bible Study on Believing, written in first person as my testimony of salvation in the summer of 1972. It is my personal desire for anyone who comes to know me personally. Another related work I have written includes: A Daily Prayer Notebook, which is basically a guide to praying in the manner suggested in the Bible, also a journal for life stewardship.

I would also strongly encourage anyone with doubts about the value of living life based on the Bible to read an article I have edited, written by my Pastor, Bim Rowley, Is the Bible Reliable?

We offer services in Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning primarily. We also perform Janitorial Office and Residential Cleaning; Hard Floor Stripping, Resurfacing and Maintenance; Minor Carpet Repair and Reinstallation, Minor Deodorization and Decontamination Procedures; Minor Carpet Color Repairs; and other Miscellaneous Cleaning Projects.

We are especially interested in providing information for the consumer on issues related to carpets, upholstery and home cleaning. Our newsletter, GLORY Carpet Homeland is produced annually, is also available by a phone request to 860-528-7205.
