Carpet Cleaning Standard Expanded & Enhanced

We hope this finds your home clean and healthy. Health in our homes is not a thing to taken for granted. It is often NOT what we think it is!

Our children spend 60- 80 % of their brief growing years indoors, and of that time about 50% can be attributed to "home" if we include sleeping hours. The environment we raise them in must be the BEST QUALITY POSSIBLE!

We are very grateful to be of a service to you as we begin our 16th year of continuous operation helping to keep CT clean. Since October, 1987, we have provided full time service to hundreds of residents and businesses!

Water Damage Is No Small Event

Be sure to have a healthy respect when you have a water incident of more than 5 - 10 gallons . Water damages property in many unseen ways. Getting it removed and drying surfaces is of the utmost importance. Getting a knowledgeable professional to extract the area is the solution for peace of mind. You will get advise you need and when you hear it you will know what you hear is right. Do not think it will just evaporate with time. The real danger is mold conditions which usually cause great health hazards when the drying does not take place within 1-2 days. Mold is created when a temperature of 48 to 68B is maintained with a continuing water source, dark and motionless conditions exist.

Symposium for Commercial Cleaning in Colorado

We are grateful for the marvelous experience for 3 days in Colorado at the Textile Cleaners of America first annual symposium where we got a thorough update on the current issues for cleaners in 2002. It was a focus on how to do commercial cleaning for medium to large size facilities.

ˇ Some significant info from the trip:

1. Carpet cleaning standard was updated for 3rd printing, expanding to 45 pages, including graphics to describe some of the material.

2. This convention had a focus on commercial work.

3. Many outstanding speakers at this meeting-- some well known technical specialists for the cleaning industry. Coleman Kahn, Benny Wood, Barry Costa, Doug Bradford, Jon Whittaker, Doyle Bloss Mike West, Jeff Bishop, Dane Gregory, Dr. Michael Berry {EPA} Aaron Grosclose

4. New chemicals for interim maintenance of carpets.

5. News of Servicemaster's™ excellent recovery response to the Pentagon Cleanup after 9/11.

6. Attendance of my first ever IICRC Board meeting. Discovered a lot about how they function_- and how changes are made to the standards and new needs assessments. I also contributed to modifications of one of the IICRC Exams in a committee meeting for that purpose.

7. Technicians now number over 21,500 and certified firms over 5,000.

The April trip was very impressive to me_ I was grateful to have gone.

Tips

Vacuum Cleaner Problems – Here's some reasons your vacuum cleaner may not perform like it did Day One!

a. clogged air-flow - check for papers, clips or other obstructions restricting the air flow. Better yet do not go over small objects that could clog the system, pick them up by hand or sweep with a light broom first.

Early Hoover Vacuum

b. reduced air-flow - bags are not usually replaced when necessary, or if you have a cloth-reusable bag, it is not emptied, or at least not properly. A cloth bag should be turned inside out and rapped firmly about a dozen times to remove the fine dust which usually causes reduced air-flow.

The First Hoover Vacuum

c. worn or ill-functioning parts - belts begin slipping when out-stretched or cracked with time, and should be replaced every 6 months to a year; brushes wear or even soften from initial aggressive state (compare your toothbrush!) Brushes are best replaced every year on residential use applications. electric cords are often pulled, yanked, twisted or chewed up by agitators. I despise a dirty cord and often clean it. avoid running power brushes any where near your cord, instead work away from the plug in area, tape worn insulation, and replace frayed or cut cords for fire safety.

"Airway" Vacuum

We use Hoover™ vacuum cleaners and can provide replacement parts for you. Please call us with a model, serial numbers and part description and we can order one for you on our next order for a 10% contractor's markup. If you don't know how to install it, we will on your next cleaning order free!

Wax on carpet – remove with bone scraper or dull knife all the solid possible. Be sure not to damage the face of the pile as you scrape. If color dye was in wax use a solvent to remove. If no color, use a steam iron with thin white towel to remove the rest. It may require several applications of the iron. Be sure to keep the towel wet.

Gum on carpet – use a solvent and allow 3-5 minutes dwell time with agitation in a tamping action not brushing since the fibers can be damaged with too much brushing. After applying the solvent rinse it out with a neutral cleaner and water, otherwise the solvent will remain as a residue and cause rapid re-soiling

Family Helpers

We are thankful for the willingness of our family to help us in the responsibilities we have, especially when injury or illness complicate our work schedule. Christine, David and Joseph are genuine members of our team!

Christine helps now with office cleaning, carpet cleaning and continues to keep the books. She still cooks, teaches Sunday School, volunteers for church functions, prepares home-made cards for a nursing home service each month, and of course helps the kids with homework in the evenings.

David is now a Seventh Grader at Hartford Christian Academy. He is receiving excellent training, is an excellent artist and builder, and really loves tactical warfare.

Joseph entered the Fourth Grade this year at Hartford Christian Academy. His favorite game now is Monopoly™, he is very sociable and friendly with everyone. He especially enjoys field trips, and has several collections going.

Patrick takes the morning drive to school to study Psalms in the Bible as well as an 82 question Catechism compiled by Charles Spurgeon. On the ride home we are usually able to listen to Adventures in Odyssey a drama presented on our local Christian radio station. All three of us boys love to take bicycle rides, and are often seen riding to church both morning and evening services. He maintains the carpet cleaning truck, manages office cleaning accounts, and the church cleaning teams for our expanding buildings at church.

But you are helpful too, when you allow us to reschedule at what may seem the most inopportune times!

We now have a fresh supply of carpet cleaning van magnets for you to keep and give away. Just ask for a couple when we clean your place next time. Many of our customers have come to us by your referrals! So let us say...

Thanks Again

Again we thank you for being part of our cleaning revolution. One day the Book we love tells us there will be little need for cleaning. On a concluding personal note, if you have never considered some of the things recorded in the Bible seriously, I invite you to read a brochure I wrote called "A Simple Bible Study on Believing." It is a great place to begin understanding heaven and what it is like. You can even find it online. It is referenced under my personal pages (the link is just above the Cleanfax™ logo on the left column of the web page 1/3 of the way down. We’ll be glad to send you a hard copy if you request. We wish you a most joyous Holiday time of the year for Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year's as well!
