Saturday memorial to Christine was @10am 11/18/23 www.truthbaptistchurch.org (streamed only live that day) The summary of our Family Crisis, by C. Pat Lanyon. The Fiery Trial (Beginning September 26, 2023, then continued October 9, 2023) =====(originally drafted week of November 11, 2024) The last few weeks have for our family been an upheaval of anything normal. 1. On September 26th our work van was rear-ended virtually closing down (temporarily) financially our carpet cleaning business. 2. The week of Monday, October 9, Chris began experiencing the symptoms of what we now know was a cranial glioblastoma TUMOR, detected about 11:30pm Friday night. An on-call neurosurgeon at the UConn Health Center Emergency showed me briefly what he correctly identified as that tumor and said we needed to admit her. Swiftly an ER Room was prioritized for her, and plans became active to schedule the surgery for Wednesday October 18. 3. The preparation for that surgery was met with some numbness and uncertainty by yours truly, but clearly I saw God orchestrating all of this for His own purposes. I asked Chris to give a brief 2 minute word for all who would be concerned. Off social networks most of you getting this cannot see so this is her mp4 recording on my APN website: https://www.aprayernotebook.net/cranial/greet.mp4 4. The 6.5 hour surgery went "as planned" according to the surgeons, but, NOT according to them were the seizure interruptions that followed including use of 3-5 anti-seizure medications layered to enable control of what they were able to monitor via EKG state-of-the-art equipment. 5. After the fourth med was introduced, we were told intubation was a necessity or her throat could relax likely creating a suffocation due to the extreme sedation they would cause. This procedure eliminated just about all meaningful communication with Christine for us, but we believe hearing became elevated from the things others had experienced and told us. 6. Chris was in ICU since 10/18/23, and she was visited by dozens of adults, and received about 100+ cards or gifts, and on Facebook where we posted day-by-day updates, thousands of emoticons and hundreds of comments and well wishes. The cards alone were shocking to every employee in UConn's ICU floor we visited almost daily. 7. After 2 weeks, we were told, permanent vocal cord/throat consequences could result unless we authorize a tracheostomy and feeding tube be inserted which would enable a long term prognosis albeit the malignant nature of this tumor cast a huge shadow on that option. 8. We then elected to postpone that after reflecting that God somewhat timed all of this reminiscing past historic lessons from the Red Sea Crossing Bible event. You see our church evangelistic services were then beginning Sunday- Wednesday. So we elected to wait upon God Saturday and Sunday to see if He would show mercy like His showing up for the past weeks of these events. ***But the Dr's insisted on a Monday, November 6th decision, and after a meeting with Dr. Kelly and his ICU staff, TBC counsellor Melanie Harper, and family we mutually agreed to honor Chris' life wishes, to NOT prolong what we saw as God saying 'I want her home with Me sooner than you please!' But it was also a chance to admonish this education institution to consider revising curriculum for Dr's and nurse's training to include more than say 30% of body nutrition and unconventional but less profitable healing practitioning! *** 9. I sent an email to our Christine Newsletter listed folk and by post those we might deem needed a postal letter. We hope people could at least be able to express thanksgiving for what is for some of them 'years of timed anniversary and birthday greeting' cards, since God did not allow preserving her life before her coronation, and imminently it came at 8:51pm with David and I by her side. 10. The ensuing days were painful and us Lanyons knew nothing of grieving, yet we all had great consolation she was TRULY enjoying the bliss of heaven: "to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD!" - 2Co_5:8 were words gaining new significance to us both. 11. But we knew it would be important for many who grieved like us, some perhaps almost as much as us if not more, so we began planning for the most beneficial time for a memorial service. Having Thanksgiving immanently upon us it had to happen before that weekend, but having the memorial service on the first Saturday after her passing was just to soon, and no other day and time surpassed a Saturday, so November 18th was the clear choice. 12. God began orchestrating the details of that day and as it approached, we knew it was His doing. I chose the snapshot of her 17th anniversary dozen roses as she entered the Caravan for the memorial picture as it pictured her sweet smile, and energy to have beautiful flowers but not to keep most of them. She soon would share all but one she kept for yours truly to enjoy together with her. 13. Melanie Harper who assisted us throughout the whole ordeal, put together a program I had initially begun with our favorite songs, verses, and David devoted time assembling amazingly select pictures of those he somehow knew would be there for the service and we decided on two recordings so meaningful of the occasion. He then chose to Sing "Cherish the Moment" with a recorded accompaniment by the composer, the late Ron Hamilton with his wife Shelly. 14. Truth Baptist Church was filled for the service to capacity, and about 75 people stood in the foyer where visual screens and speakers provided viewing of the front area. 15. TBC's former choir members attending that day 'from here and there' came forward as the local ones had already quickly prepared a song I had chosen as to be her very favorite, "Holy Is He," a medley/mixture of two beautiful songs in a composition they had sung before. 16. Albums, favorite pictures, and of course all the hospital cards were placed throughout the building and auditorium. Volunteers perpared light snacks in the Gym kitchen that day. 17. Christine's wish would never include the high cost of a flashy coffin and burial, so I had her body cremated, and at some point we will find a fitting ending rest for them either in her Mother's plot in OH, or with our family with their wishes paramount. ==== Thank you for being one among multitudes her life has deeply touched over her 74+ years. perfect peace 9:12 whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in [Music] 9:27 name I like thank you all for coming um before I read my prepared 9:38 remarks I want to explain the reason I picked this 9:44 picture it's a picture many many many pictures I had 9:49 that I could have selected most of the pictures that I tried to snap of 9:55 Christine she always virtually closed her 10:01 eyes so this one I surprised her it was our 10:08 18th anniversary and I bought her 12 red roses but I knew what was going to 10:15 happen to those Roses not many hours after I gave them 10:21 to her and sure enough that's exactly what happened to them all but one of them was gone 10:30 and somebody out there got him but I snapped this picture as she 10:36 was getting in the car with my phone and it spoke so well of the life that she 10:44 lived she was always transferring things that she got to other people and not an 10:53 ounce of concern for herself and that's what we're here to celebrate in addition 10:59 to what I've been saying to everybody Christine wise lanan worked herself to 11:06 death and God said well done it's time to come home 11:12 and we searched that out because we had a bunch of us praying that it was not going to get that we were not going to 11:18 get that answer but sometimes you have to accept God's nose and that was the answer that 11:27 we got consistently after this operation was done 11:36 so pardon my feeble I have to read 11:43 closeup good morning everyone and welcome we've all come to honor a person so worthy of respect I am humbled as her 11:51 husband of 35 years now to eulogize one of those 74 and 3/4 years 11:59 years of her life has as I have said so lived bigger than life itself this 12:06 morning I present to you Christine Eva wise lanan Christine Chris 12:15 loved her name because it is Christ Jesus name he has Defined Life for her 12:21 early on because her heart was tendered toward him she said when I was in third 12:28 grade I was burdened about missions I felt it was very wrong for people in other lands to worship other gods I 12:36 believe God wanted me to be a missionary she later rejected missionary 12:42 work for her life while in high school and focusing on home e economics and 12:47 after some pretty frustrating months in a nursing school hoping to quote catch a 12:54 young man and marry to have a family as most young girls that age but seeing 13:00 roadblocks to that pathway she heard about Tennessee Temple 13:06 schools and decided to enroll where she was made to understand salvation and was 13:12 gloriously saved there under the ministry of Dr Lee Robertson about 13:18 1969 she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1972 but not until 1982 had she earned 13:26 her Bachelor of Science in elementary education Eva her middle name was her middle name 13:34 but she despised being called that typically comments like this almost never came out of Christine's mouth but 13:41 it was pretty clear she disapproved of e choice to disobey God's clear command 13:48 about that tree of knowledge to her help meet you shall not eat for in the day 13:55 that you eat of it you shall surely die eeve in a perfect garden with an easy life 14:02 and job of just being fruitful multiplying and replenishing she heed bad advice and plunged the whole family 14:09 she was given into some pretty horrible 14:14 consequences wise was her maiden name and like natural tendencies to abide by 14:20 your name she embraced wisdom in her life and I think 14:26 we can all agree she became a sage that means one venerated for experience 14:33 judgment and wisdom in that world I've been humored with a thought often my 14:39 choice for a wife and I hardly agree that I did make the wise 14:45 choice lanon is her married name and my family name of English origin but I take 14:52 Liberty here to colloquial IE it into landed she ended up with me in 14:59 Connecticut a land neither of us envisioned at our life start but have 15:04 basked in the spiritual fertile soil of what was once the American Great 15:14 Awakening A North Central Ohio home Homestead Christine grew up in a 15:21 railroad lines crossing called Attica Junction in North Central Ohio she had 15:27 two beautiful sisters she made the middle of a sandwich of the three though 15:32 her father was harsh he was a stable and Frugal Railroad Man and provider who 15:40 later repented after lymphatic cancer attacked him I never got to know him but 15:46 her mother Mary wise was a gracious and kindhearted woman of Grace and we all 15:52 grew to love her immensely upon meeting her here in Connecticut Chattanooga her school her 15:59 new school soier Christine had won honors in a homemaker competition and 16:06 became an excellent candidate for homemaking Queen but that was put on back burner as 16:12 she faced God first faced as she faced God first steps in her life at Tennessee 16:19 Temple she found Christ as her Savior and entered into a family of spiritual support unknown before her magnetizing 16:28 heart captured students women especially and teachers she earned an associates 16:33 degree in teaching But A Renewed intense of uh intense missions urge to return to 16:41 her chosen field Ghana beckon strongly at school she learned of bami a Baptist 16:47 missions organization there in Chattanooga where she could get a path toward her missionary Vision to become 16:54 real but it was just not Africa a iian School needing a second 17:00 grade teacher was the only BMI option allowed once arriving however love 17:10 flooded her heart for not only the students but the people of of the 17:16 British West Indies there Nassar Christian Academy with high standards expected her to raise her degree to a 17:22 Bachelors so she returned summers at Temple to do that very thing 17:29 Prov Bible Church and interim ladies Ministry in the fall of 1985 and after attaining that degree she 17:38 had been convicted to help a conference Pastor pleading for help in 17:44 Providenciales and she finally surrendered now in the earlier 1980s one 17:49 of the young men she had met was myself in 1983 when I graduated I had first 17:55 seen her two weeks following July 20th in 1977 when I had surrendered to a 18:01 mission's call life in bra for her was a challenge but she always found Grace 18:08 from God to be the humble servant to women and missionary life the fours and 18:13 fives Nursery School Ministry at braavo bible church was begun and it seemed to 18:19 prosper but in 1988 a youth pastor needed needed the only apartment 18:25 available so Christine had to leave had to change course again at this time I 18:31 had been in correspondence with her but she being a third world missionary I 18:36 never considered choosing to leave her I never considered her choosing to leave 18:41 what she might think was a foreign field as a missionary to come back to the US for homemaking with me but God had other 18:49 plans including a grand reward for her sacrificing childbearing years of life 18:55 determined only to begin homemaking with his 19:01 approval thus began a series of fives for Christine five months on the phone 19:07 familiarizing with yours truly a visit to TBC for five 19:12 weeks beginning in J June 28th which then culminated in no less than five 19:19 receptions all this preceded by five years of letter correspondence support 19:24 reporting missionaries with her added personal comments like so many of your cards 19:32 have in August 1983 she was also giv a 15 page outline 19:39 exposition of Matthew 6 which I had organized while in study my years there 19:44 in seminary and typed up in it in 1980 when assisting truth Baptist Church 19:50 original service on June 29 and I made available the a printed version of um a 19:57 track growing up um that's available if you'd like to pick it up outside in the 20:02 forye with all this in play we began the now 35 years of the Connecticut lanon 20:09 family after another 5we segment beginning October this year Christine's 20:15 life Legacy was clearly magnified as larger than life when it was ended 20:20 November 6th here are the the few notes I 20:27 concluded is manifesting her glorious days with her that I expect you all to 20:33 expand greatly here are the lessons of Christine number 20:38 one a life enviable to have lived the reward for 20:45 patience and cumulative prayers answered she has taught us that there is a great 20:50 value in placing selfish desires on the bottom pile of expectations and yielding 20:56 to God first and Faithfully following through even though very hard paths she 21:02 followed two and this is the big one a genuine love of people her 21:12 systematic genuine connection to people that lasted a lifetime was proven with 21:19 humble simple and faithful greeting cards that followed you wherever you go 21:26 and included the family you be began three a sober determined Redeemer of 21:36 time life for her was a so so so 21:41 deliberate pressing on embarking making time always count almost to a fault you 21:49 see that was what she was saying when the symptoms began she would say so so 21:55 so so so so and it was just a reminder to me that she was always thinking about 22:01 the next soul to get to Psalm 22:07 90:12 so teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of 22:14 wisdom number four a guarded family life and 22:21 relationship staunchly refusing male hugs except from her husband she purely 22:27 Lov loved her husband and maintained loyalty to her children 22:33 five sewing love into children's Hearts students loved developed a love 22:41 for her that lasts a lifetime through Sunday School classes vacation bible school and all other church activities 22:49 and this is one of the biggest disappointments I had in the Intensive Care Unit they absolutely adamantly 22:57 refused to children under 12 and I'm sorry for you children that could not 23:03 come and see your Sunday school teacher number 23:09 six giving as a transfer station people knew they could clean out 23:15 their closets and homes of all kinds of things they no longer wanted things they knew she would find another home for 23:24 them in closing my eulogy I'll probably never get over a big hole that happened 23:30 in our Earthly family earlier last month but gratefully I'll allow you to reread 23:36 all of the this passage on the virtuous woman after I close with my husband 23:42 perspective on Proverbs 31 verse 10 who can find a virtuous 23:53 wife for her worth is far above rubies 23:59 the heart of her husband safely trusts her so he will have no lack of 24:07 gain she does him good and not evil all the days of her 24:13 life verse 23 her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the Elders 24:18 of the land verse 28 her children rise up and call her blessed her husband also and he 24:26 Praises her verse 29 many daughters have done well 24:31 but you truly that's my editorial addition 24:38 Excel them all verse 30 charm is deceitful and 24:44 beauty is passing but a woman who fears the Lord she shall be 24:50 praised give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her 24:56 in the gates I praise the life you've lived my dear dear wife I love the life that you've 25:04 given me God bless 25:12 you me get when you'll have no child to 28:24 hold so cherish cherish 28:31 cherisher so cherish cherish 28:38 the 28:48 moment all right after I give my testimony everybody else will be able to give their testimony and I did in fact 28:54 sing that song to my mom many times and I did cry a lot when I sang it 29:00 before so yeah anyway if I mom had lot of good 29:07 memories and if I say anyone else wanted to feel free to mention it again a 29:14 memory that meant to me a lot to you you can as well but one thing is Mom would 29:19 use her hairstyle to get us more work as we would clean hair salons and exchange my my mom would get perms and sometimes 29:26 we'd get haircut from Jo Bard from from them to give him a break and well herir 29:32 also made it easier for to find her in a crowd especially for me and she would also use our dentist needs in the same 29:39 way we could trade off to get more cleaning and and save money that way as well and she would be funny and 29:44 exaggerate for instance instead of saying I ate too much candy she would say I was eating 20 million candies or 29:51 something and to Jus to justify myself I would say well technically you mean 29:57 atoms of sugar and also at the banner on our front door and Sunday School classroom 30:04 that would get changed the banners and and and her class we get a lot of pictures in front of it and and those 30:10 are good memories my me and my brother as as well when we went through her class on Sunday school I was allowed to 30:17 go to almost every social activity I asked to go to unfortunately I took it 30:22 for granted but for the few times that I wasn't able to go especially when I was younger 30:27 and I'm I'm I'm I regret that now similarly I was also allowed to bike 30:32 almost anywhere I wanted to go and I could go anywhere as early or stay as late for the most part as I felt like 30:39 doing and and she would also try to sa money by encouraging us to recycle and we would we would try to help her out 30:45 with that and sometimes it would be like no no you're trying to do other stuff and and yeah but but what living in a 30:52 third world country makes you appreciate it more and and it did when I visited her Mission field as well she would also 30:59 cut out pictures of scenery and old calendars and advertisement mail and uh 31:05 just just to make things go further to and we would help her she would also witness to people everywhere like 31:11 especially at the grocery store she like jigsaw puzzles and read books mostly about missionaries and she would tell us 31:18 about what she read and I missed that uh mom would also invite as many families 31:23 as she could to come eat after church back in days and then would get pictures 31:29 with with them to put in the scrapbooks and you'll probably see them out in the gym later and when I was homeschooled at 31:35 first I was not happy with needing to memorize things and so I would spend as long as I could making cards and drw 31:42 pictures for everyone mom said to like Grandma and and just just to get out of doing work and and so I I I made some 31:50 really like cards it took hours and hours to make lots of extra like fill up every single piece of white paper with 31:57 color just to take up time and then as she started to see what I was doing and was like okay you're 32:03 done yeah and mom was also great at weather forecasting as she would say due to a headache it's probably going to 32:11 rain and it would and when someone leaves it it it 32:16 can cause memories of some things one would like to do differently while at the same time anything could be seen as 32:24 bad in some cases like Mom would say M would tell me hey the Bible says not not you're good people spoken of but there 32:30 were times when well it's like well hey I had good intentions and I decided uh 32:36 hey I need to not that that bother me in this case and I if my my conscience was 32:41 saying uh this is a uh this is this is different but but my other thought that 32:48 it may remind me of hate we we're not methusa we can't live to be 969 it's like it says in Psalm 90:10 70 years and 32:56 by strength we might might get 80 she was 74 she would have been 75 this January and hey it makes me think like 33:04 hey it maybe it could be like sickness can be similar to a sin that can slowly take away how long we can live maybe and 33:12 also can slowly growing stronger warn us about the future as God like allowed 33:17 cancer and my mom to cause her to uh fall out in the past few months and then we often to warn her when time is 33:25 getting shorter so she could beare on such as make more cards months and months in advance and yet not make the 33:31 rest of the family worry and at the same time she would say hints like stop eating too much sugar or else you will 33:37 go to the hospital for diabetes for maybe the rest of your life especially 33:42 me especially when I worked at Megan's 33:47 donuts and and yes parents usually stand up for their kids even when some people do not and my mom definitely did stand 33:53 up for me kind of like as if I was going on way and never everybody else was going the other ways for instance like 33:59 Mom was him only so I I switched back partially due to Mom but slowly got most 34:05 others going other way with contemporary songs kind of like like for instance if you're a missionary or if you're working 34:12 with a tons of non-christians for a certain time of a Christian's life it needs to feel like some more than others 34:18 we are going a way most or even everyone else is not going and sometimes though 34:24 it can be hard in unique situations where is best if we not talk about specific things for instance there can 34:30 be certain things that can be emotional to people in any stage of life it's like 34:35 being over the age of 18 hearing the song cherish the moment can trigger sad 34:41 memories and like was a younger person would be less likely to feel anything at all by that or they might even feel that 34:48 song I just sang was boring but yeah we can't go through life very long without like offending people 34:54 it's inevitable and we can cause worry which in turn can cause less lifetime as 35:00 shown statistically and we have less of a will to live and get sick more often so I say I suggest stay happy longer 35:07 than choosing to worry and be sad too much while remembering that worry is an inevitable part of life and if and when 35:14 should be used in moderation as if you start to get a headache then maybe you know you've been worrying too much and 35:20 you need to force yourself to stop before you cause more problems that being sick causes anyone for instance 35:26 yeah we all know Mom can be seen later if they if if people will get saved by sincerely praying to God who made 35:32 everything saying sorry for sing such as when mom said not to eat a cookie and I ate it and believe God forgave me and 35:40 and let me go to heaven when I die I'll see you 35:52 again we've set aside 30 minutes and literally we could spend all day with 35:59 testimonies I know um but we are going to have an open mic after in during the 36:05 lunch and afterwards and I hope that you'll be able to stay but what I'd like to do is organize the testimony time now 36:12 if you're on this side of the auditorium and you have a personal testimony that you want to come up we all want to hear 36:20 it form a line and you can begin now if you've got one you can come up here and 36:25 just stand wait quietly here in a line and if you're on this side of the 36:31 auditorium stay stand and wait here on this side and form your lines and then we'll spend the 30 minutes and if you're 36:37 going to give a testimony have an alternate one or two that you can give 36:44 so that there won't be a lot of repetition on the same particular kind of a thing and that will help a a broad 36:51 coverage of what we want to say about Christine and then I hope you will plan because we will have lots more time this 36:58 afternoon for you to stand to you give testimonies Open Mic while we have our lunch in so please do that if you have a 37:04 testimony please stand up now and come down forward if there's those that are 37:10 willing to do that I'd like to do it this way thank 37:22 you I'm just going to hold it and then pass it to someone else 37:28 so um I love Chris Christine like all of you guys um do I one thing I just love 37:38 about Christine is when I'm looking around this room she is the great connector of people uh from far from all 37:47 the years of our church that she was ever here and um she loved every person 37:53 who if you if the Lord moved you on from our church she loved you just the same 37:58 and um she taught all my kids in Sunday school I don't I know I've had her as a 38:05 teacher um but I don't remember necessarily being in Sunday school with her but um she just her cards and I know 38:16 people will say that but um just constantly being an encourage her every 38:21 time I saw her um she would come up and tell me thank you so much for everything 38:26 everything you do around here and I would say Christine thank you for everything you do around here but I mean 38:32 she said that every time she saw me and she was just always affirming she was 38:38 one of those people who never said a bad word about anybody so um anyone else 38:45 want to take the mic okay 38:52 good I'm sorry for the Waterworks they've started um I have to share 38:57 something cuz um Christine um her birthday is January 20th my birthday is 39:03 January 19th so we kind of shared our birthday weekends and she has the same 39:09 birthday as Susanna Wesley I don't know if you know that but Susanna Wesley was a very very Godly mother you know Sam 39:16 Wesley Charles Wesley she raised them up and Christine was kind of like my Susanna Wesley she was my Godly older 39:24 woman and I knew that I could um whenever I was just in her presence I felt better and um I was lucky because 39:32 she helped me clean my house when my mom moved up um my mom moved up and um 39:39 wanted us to move so we moved we found a house that my mom would be happy in and 39:46 um Christine and the boys and everybody else came over and helped me organize so I love that I could go through things 39:53 and give it to Christine and give it to Christine and give it to Christine and she would just disperse everything and I 40:00 even loved seeing oh like that's my daughter's t-shirt from high from Junior 40:05 High I'd love seeing those clothes on Christine she was just she just loved and she just gave gave and every time I 40:13 would see her she would say I love you and so when my mom passed away like three or four years ago Christine was 40:21 like the next person that she would say I love you I love you and it doesn't matter how old you get it's just nice to 40:28 hear somebody say I love you and she was just always that for me and I love how 40:33 she said the Lord is my strength because she would always say that to me the Lord 40:39 is my strength and so I'm going to keep saying that going to keep saying the 40:45 Lord is my strength and so thank 40:55 you well I didn't know um Mrs lanan for a lot of years so um but for the years I 41:03 did know her I know she was a beautiful example of what the love of Christ was 41:10 like and um the way she would share uh birthday cards in the church and um for 41:17 those of you who don't know I lead worship here um once every month and every time I led worship she would 41:23 always give me a word of encouragement after uh she just had a Heart of Worship and 41:29 she loved the song she loved worshiping Jesus and that's something I'm always going to remember about 41:40 her I grew up here and I've known Mrs lanan since well I can't remember not 41:46 knowing her and she had the best memory cuz there's 200 and something people and 41:53 she would like every four years my my birthdays on a Sunday and I'd come to church some like I wouldn't even 41:59 remember it's my birthday and I'd get a card and I'd be like oh it's my birthday like Mrs lanon told me it's my 42:06 birthday and I I kept all the cards that're in this drawer in my house but 42:13 um I her Sunday school class for me was uh some of the best 42:20 memories because I had this friend um named Michael Celeste and we were so bad 42:26 in her class EV every single week him or I would get sent to the corner and have 42:32 to stay there and just like two weeks ago or I don't know how long but I got the 42:39 opportunity to call her while she was in the hospital and I got to talk to her and tell her I was thankful for her 42:47 and I I hope she could hear but I am so thankful for her and for the memories 42:52 that she gave me in Sunday school and just she was so patient and I thought she was going to retire after 42:58 I left but but she was still teaching up until 43:06 last month and 43:14 yeah good morning everyone this is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in 43:22 it we all heavy-hearted but you know we are here to celebrate the life of a very 43:28 beautiful happy gracious grateful woman who's loved every single one of us here 43:34 and extended families we were at truth Baptist Church for over 30 years and 43:40 Christine is and will remain our very favorite person she consistently and 43:47 unconditionally loved my family I have four um grown children she loved them 43:53 all send them cards you guys already know this even when they went to college even when 43:59 they moved to other states even after the two of them got married I just 44:04 received a card from her in October just to encourage me because something 44:09 happened uh the past few months he just been a a time of some struggles and she just sent a card and 44:18 um so much we can say about her but one thing I have learned from her is that 44:24 the instruction that we re receive from Christ to love 44:30 unconditionally love is action that action was in Christine 44:36 lanan that's the lesson I take from her and I challenge everyone here to take 44:43 that lesson to live it until the day you die God bless 44:54 you 45:05 good morning everyone um I was here in Baptist Church 45:11 for maybe two years but Christine really made an impact on my 45:18 life when I came to visit she would um I would always expect her hugs I love her 45:24 hugs I love her encouragement she's always one of the verses that she would say to 45:31 me is God's mercy are new every morning and she would tell me often and I say 45:37 praise the Lord amen yes it is and um so after I went 45:44 to um a different church I thought Christine would forget me I didn't think 45:51 who would remember me you know I was here just for two years but receiving a birthday card was a 45:59 treasure I just I said wow I'm I'm still receiving birthday cards from Christine 46:05 um she remembers me and um we kept in contact with her and every time I came 46:10 over here um I would look for her because I know for sure I was going to 46:16 get a hug and an encouragement and I love that from Christine very 46:22 positive um very giving she knows I love to bake so she would give me bake Goods 46:29 um tins so I could put my you know my baking Goods in and um she will be 46:35 dearly missed but there's this verse that I love and it says in First 46:44 Corinthians um it says oh death where is thy sting oh grave where is thy 46:53 Victory praise God for us who believe in the hope of Jesus Christ I praise him 47:01 and I adore him and she's not here now but that's okay we will see her for 47:09 eternity we will be praising God and and this this verse is just like wow it's 47:16 like a punch right in the stomach of death you have no power over us and 47:23 therefore we have hope to see her we cry yes like if someone leaves from this 47:29 country to another country she will be missed she graduated she moved on to a Celestial place where we have the hope 47:37 to go so we are here to rejoice and at the same time yes to mourn because she's 47:46 no longer with us but we have the victory not death and so thanks be to 47:53 God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ 48:04 amen those last two were 48:10 beautiful when I was in Mrs Lan's class I didn't really think think much about 48:17 it um it was one of the classes where I was 48:22 there and I was I was learning but I didn't really take it 48:31 honestly almost every time after the lesson that we had there was done we 48:37 would have a she would have like take down a box from like one of the shelves it was called a treasure chest and we 48:43 would take some of those little things that were in there and take them home 48:51 she just let us she just let him let us have them um we would play games in her 49:00 classroom fun games 49:05 [Music] and now I wish I could go 49:17 back I reg I regret anytime I zoned 49:23 out and just didn't pay 49:31 [Music] attention no matter who you 49:38 are if you were here and you saw her you would remember her because she 49:44 would remember 49:54 you good morning my name is Ed Van Allen my wife Katie and I attended here uh 50:00 back in the early 2000s and there's a lot I can say about this church one of 50:06 the things that I associate with this church is Christine lanon uh anytime I I 50:12 think of of Truth Baptist Church I think of Christine lanan among uh you know 50:17 along with Pastor Rowley and and many many of you uh who you know attended 50:23 here before and continue to attend here but the thing that I remember the most uh when we first my wife and I uh first 50:30 walked into the doors of this church and at the time we were not married we were seeing each other and um Christine was 50:37 one of the first people that we saw uh when we came into this church um I think 50:42 Pastor priy was probably the first one um but Christine was right in there among the first people that we saw and 50:49 met when we first came into this church and the thing that I remember the most 50:54 about Christine is when the service was over I don't remember much about the service but when 50:59 the service was over Christine came to us and said would you like to come to our house for lunch now we had never met 51:07 I had never met anybody in this church and I come from a background that you know before I was saved you know you 51:13 went to church you checked off the box and you went home right and maybe you went the next time maybe you didn't but 51:19 I had never had anybody come to me and make me feel welcome walking into the 51:24 doors of church and uh Christine made us feel welcome when we walked into the 51:31 doors of this church to the degree that she invited us to that just blew my mind 51:37 that she invited us to lunch never having met us before and so uh 51:42 hesitantly we took her up on that and we went to lunch at the Lan yion and we had 51:48 lunch with the larents I don't know how many of you remember the larents um and the boys were were there and we were 51:54 just made to feel so welcome in their home they opened up their home to us and 51:59 for me that was just something that you know you you can't put a price on that 52:05 um and so it really had a big impact on me um and then the following week we 52:11 came back largely um due to the fact that we were made to feel so welcome and 52:17 for those of you that are are here that is a is a very very important thing when 52:24 people walk into the doors of your church if you can make them feel welcome make them feel important that was 52:32 Christine she made you feel important not just that first day but when we came the following week she had a big giant 52:39 bag of clothes that she handed to my wife I was like what is that all about and you know so you know I would just 52:46 encourage you you know she was like an Andrew you know she was a conduit to 52:52 help people see Christ and come to Christ Christ when they walked in the doors of the church she made you feel 52:59 welcome and you wanted to be here and I I would I Thank The Landings I thank 53:04 Christine you know for all that she did to make me feel welcome while we were here and it was such a big impact on me 53:12 and I I've done a lot of Ministries in the years since I've been saved a lot of Ministries I've led the choir in the 53:17 church that that we're in um but a couple years ago I was asked to lead the 53:23 hospitality Ministry and I would not want to do anything else I think it's the most important Ministry in the 53:29 church is to touch people when they walk in the doors be that influence and help them to have a clear pathway to Christ 53:36 and I hope and I pray that that's everybody's heart today if you call Jesus your savior so thank 53:52 you hi 53:58 I'm sorry just she was my favorite 54:03 teacher and she was always there for you and she 54:10 just come with the biggest 54:15 smile we all loved her we still 54:24 do she would always whenever it was my 54:29 birthday I would just I would just always look forward to 54:34 the Sunday when she would give me the card and this year when I when she 54:40 passed away I didn't get my card yet and I was really sad that if I 54:47 didn't get my card and then finally I did and I was so 54:53 happy and my little sistera she was like who's going to be my Sunday school 54:58 teacher now and I just I've known her my whole 55:09 life so I'm really going to miss her but we still have to be 55:23 strong you're making me cry I now more um I got the privilege of being 55:29 able to help in Mrs lenon Sunday school class when I was in my early 20s and I had never really done that before so I 55:36 was a little nervous about it but she was so encouraging and welcoming and was just showing me how to teach these 55:44 kids and she was so excited and always had the flannel flannel graph thing and like all the pictures and stick them up 55:49 there and I was like whoa I thought that was like from when I was a kid but it was still there Mrs lanon Sunday school 55:57 class and it was just very special to get to learn from her how to teach kids 56:04 how to be Joy how to be Christ to them um and around that same time I was like 56:10 as everybody said the cards were so inspiring and I was like I want to do this too and I told her that and she 56:16 gave me this box of cards and it must have been like 200 cards in this box and 56:21 they're all crammed in there and so for like I I used pretty much all of the cards for different things when I was in 56:26 my 20s and she was just so encouraging about that like yes do it it's she was 56:32 just it was her heart and it was cool to me to see she had cards in abundance to 56:38 be able to give to me to be able to share too that was really special um yeah and once I when I got married she 56:45 would continue to send cards and every card it was like um I now I'm forgetting 56:51 exactly how she wrote it but something like I get so much joy from your marriage and she just was so happy every 56:56 time Jeremy and I would come and visit here and she'd be like oh I'm so I have 57:02 so much joy in your marriage and it was just it brought me so much joy to see 57:07 the the love that she had no matter where you go no matter who you are like 57:13 it's already been said many times she just loved in a way that I want to love in a way that I want I want to be her 57:19 when I when I'm in my 70s I want to be like Mrs lanan 57:31 uh well miss lanan was probably like my favorite teacher she was always making sure that we were all having fun we 57:37 always did like all these fun coloring pages and every Sunday she makes sure that everyone felt loved in her class 57:44 and um I love the little little uh treasure box on someone's birthday um 57:51 we'd always get a pick from it and she always made sure that everyone got something really fun and as a lot of 57:58 people have said her cards are just really amazing um they made you feel so 58:03 special and she was a very special person in everyone's life and she made 58:08 everyone feel like um so special and she's such a Gift Giver and it's so 58:15 amazing and I love that about her and I will always treasure her in my 58:23 heart 58:33 as soon as I got into Mrs lon's class that was the funnest time that I ever had in my life as soon as as soon as I 58:41 met her she was so welcoming when I first came into the 58:48 church and I love how she gave us birthday cards on her birthdays and I 58:53 always always look forward to going on that Sunday every time when it was my 58:58 birthday the last birthday card that I got was when I turned 10 and 59:10 um that made me feel so special but when I first heard that she had passed away it made 59:17 me feel so 59:23 sad Mrs lenan was the best teacher that I 59:30 ever had and I had the most fun times with her she always made me feel that I 59:36 was loved and special and she would always she will always be in my mind and my 59:51 heart hi there uh my name is Dan Wolf and and I had the privilege of growing up in this church and uh knowing Mrs 59:59 lanan most of my life uh Joe's been my best friend since I was a kid and I was 1:00:04 in Mrs lanan Sunday school class um there are so many memories and blessings that I could share uh from her life um 1:00:12 but I remember the cards and her gifts of giving uh my family clothes and 1:00:17 different things when we needed it um and I'm just so thankful that uh even 1:00:23 when my family and I moved back from Kentucky so that I could Pastor in Vernon it didn't take very long before 1:00:28 brother Pat and Mrs lanan came and were giving food and encouragement to me and 1:00:34 my family there um and so I will always treasure her and I thank God for her 1:00:40 example of what a Christian life looks like 1:00:48 so good morning my name is Khloe Mission some of you will know me as Khloe Cree 1:00:54 um um I grew up in this church and I have not been here in some time um but 1:01:00 there are two specific instances that Mrs lanan did not realize um what she 1:01:06 did um I was 19 and very alone when I had my first daughter Riley and there 1:01:13 were frankly a lot of comments around here that were not very nice um but there was um about 6 months 1:01:19 after I'd had her I was in the nursery with her and I was doing Nursery Duty 1:01:25 that day and she happened to be doing it with me and completely um you know without any 1:01:32 context she looked at me and she said Chloe I just need you to know I'm so proud of you and she will never know 1:01:39 what that meant in that moment because there were so many people who were not and she made a point to tell me that I 1:01:45 don't love the situation nobody loves the situation but Riley's here and she's beautiful and I'm so proud of 1:01:52 you and the last time that I actually spoke with her uh I was here for uh 1:01:59 something else and I was very similar um I hadn't been here and I felt very 1:02:06 awkward coming here um but she made a point to come up to me and give me a hug 1:02:12 and say you know I don't love your tattoos and your hair is a little 1:02:19 interesting and we don't we don't always agree on things um but I want you to 1:02:24 know how proud I am of you and how much I love you and though I know that she had done that 1:02:31 for several of her other kids because as you've seen whether it's me at 30 or 1:02:39 Melanie who's not 30 or I had to get you a little 1:02:44 bit or Victoria or lily or any of the other girls who were up here uh we were 1:02:51 all her kids and she was so glad to be part of our lives and she never really 1:02:57 realized how much she was the gift in all of 1:03:05 ours I'm John Berard and for the 15 years that we attended here uh we would 1:03:12 sometimes be closing up the church because we talked so much with people and Chris lanan was one of those that we 1:03:18 talked with and uh one day um she was 1:03:23 rather discouraged and I remember Pastor Rowley and I were standing in the back and we were talking 1:03:29 with her it seems that somebody had criticized her Ministry of sending cards 1:03:34 and encouraging notes to people and Chris didn't show discouragement very much she was always 1:03:41 very other centered as you probably know and so when I was standing there I told 1:03:46 her and Pastor Rowley told her something to the effect that no your cards and 1:03:52 your ministry is not worthless no it's not unneeded and no you 1:03:58 shouldn't be criticized God has used you to encourage a lot of 1:04:08 folks hi I'm PM Daran um we used to go here when our children were little so 1:04:14 Chris has always been a friend of our our family and our boy our boys got together anyway 1:04:23 um it Chris became Chris and Pat became a lot more special uh right when covid 1:04:31 started every week on Wednesday they would come by spent half an hour with us Chris would bring us stuff and I would 1:04:38 give her things out of the garden and especially flowers which he would take to the nursing home every week and um so 1:04:46 this you know for all Co and and Co was a time where people didn't come into 1:04:51 your house and and I hated that my house was always open home and so that was 1:04:57 really special I look forward to Wednesdays then it turned into Thursdays about a couple months ago and I don't 1:05:04 know when she went to the hospital it might have been Friday but Thursday she came to the house and she said pray for 1:05:10 me she said I think I have Parkinson's so we prayed prayed for her for Parkinson's it turned out wasn't 1:05:16 Parkinson's you know what it was but um you know so I feel privileged and then 1:05:22 unfortunately when she was in the hospital I had a cold so I couldn't go but my husband did at least once and um 1:05:29 she's such a special special lady every time she came she would bring me things and I give her things and and especially 1:05:36 the flowers and the kale and and it was just very precious time especially those 1:05:42 you know covid years and whatever so anyway I'm thankful for her relationship 1:05:47 and I'm thankful for her husband and her boys who would often come over Thanksgiving night and and help she 1:05:54 helped do the dishes on the Thanksgiving night sometimes so thank 1:06:02 you hi my name is Lauren George um I had the privilege of doing VBS with Chris 1:06:08 this past summer um typically when I do VBS I've done it almost every summer since I've been at truth and I've always 1:06:14 had the older girls because I'm not good with children and um I signed up late to 1:06:19 VBS and they had me with the youngest class and immediately I looked to my husband I was like this is not going to 1:06:26 work out well and they everyone kept saying it's okay with Chris it's okay with Chris like she's great she's great 1:06:32 and I was like okay well somebody better be because I can't um but she I mean she was and just the way that she can 1:06:40 interact with children and I was thinking kids that young like can they even talk I don't know but they could 1:06:46 and and they understood like when she was telling them about Jesus she like they got it and just the way that she 1:06:53 could convey the love of Christ to Minds that young and just get them to sit and 1:06:58 listen and um I felt like I was the one being taught not them and she would 1:07:05 always gather up the little bits of craft that were left over at the end things I would throw away and she would 1:07:12 always say like whatever little bit there is God can still use this and she looked at me and so earnestly said 1:07:19 whatever talents you have if they're big or if they're little whatever scraps of 1:07:25 yourself there are save them cuz God can use them and it was 1:07:31 just so amazing and I haven't known Chris that long and hearing all these 1:07:36 stories it's like wow I wish I'd gotten to know her sooner longer but we just we moved here not that long ago but my gosh 1:07:44 she was such a special lady and in that short time made such an impact on my life so really love you 1:07:52 guys 1:07:59 um Mrs Lanning has been someone that I've known my entire life um she was my 1:08:05 Sunday school teacher as a lot of other people would say as well um I remember 1:08:12 when it was like Father's Day or Mother's Day was coming up she would have a bunch of papers with a bunch of 1:08:17 little cutout pictures and we would glue them to the papers and write things 1:08:24 um also for like different holidays she was always a very artsy person and always wanted to bring other people Joy 1:08:32 um and the treasure box that was I remember that and I remember one of my 1:08:38 little brothers they would come home one day and be like Oh I got something from the treasure box want to see what it is 1:08:45 so it was that always brought them joy and it brought me joy and the cards I 1:08:51 still have like pretty much all the cards that she's given me that's just it's so nice to see how much joy that's 1:08:56 brought so many people and just seeing the impact that she's made in more lives than just mine um so yeah I think it's 1:09:05 just so nice to just read those things and just to cherish the memories that we have about her and just to remember all 1:09:11 the good 1:09:19 things hi um Miss 1:09:24 was so he was so important to 1:09:32 me every year when it was like anyone's birthday she would always give me a card and if they weren't at church and they 1:09:39 were a part of my family she would ask me to give them to them whenever I saw them I always be so happy to hear her 1:09:48 voice and when I found out that she passed away so heartbreak breaking 1:09:56 and she's just so important in my 1:10:01 life she was such a 1:10:09 blessing thank you honey hi my name is Laura um I didn't 1:10:16 have the privilege of knowing Mrs Landon like all of you I actually um only know 1:10:22 her because I go to the church service after um Truth at Grace so we just met 1:10:27 in passing I probably only met her a total of three times and I'm here not 1:10:34 only for um David and his family but because just that smile that you see 1:10:40 there that's what I remembered and I felt compelled I have to be here just from those brief moments of knowing her 1:10:47 she was just um she just touched my heart and I felt like I said compelled to give her honor for even that 1:10:55 testimony of brief moments of um just that love of the Lord that is so 1:11:01 apparent so I'm just so thankful she's with our Lord if she can't be with us what better 1:11:07 place thank 1:11:13 you um hi as many of you also have said I haven't really known Christine that 1:11:19 long um I've only been coming to church here for like three to four years um but I 1:11:27 have this one specific thing that has always stuck in my mind when um my sister and I first started coming to 1:11:32 truth like three or four years ago um we really didn't know a ton of people except for the youth group and um but we 1:11:40 started coming to some of the morning services and we weren't even members yet but the first Christmas that we were there I don't as many of you know 1:11:47 there's a Christmas card table in the hallway between the churches and it has all the families names on it 1:11:54 and that first Christmas I had maybe met Christine once in passing and there was 1:12:00 a little card on the table and it had Hannah and I's name on it and I remember 1:12:05 that was like the most meaningful thing and I remember her catching me after service and she was like oh just so you 1:12:12 know there's probably some cards for you on the table in the U for Christmas and I was so blown away by that that she had 1:12:20 noticed that Hannah and I were there even when we weren't members and just had thought of that and thought to put a 1:12:26 card there for us and that was like that has just stuck with me since 1:12:33 so okay I'm sure that uh I I wasn't sure that brother Pat was right you know that 1:12:40 there would be a line of people wanting to give testimonies but this go on for hours right because it's such a blessing 1:12:47 but at this time the choir is going to come and sing for us 1:13:07 [Music] 1:13:12 [Music] 1:13:24 blessed holy is [Applause] 1:18:51 he [Music] 1:19:04 oh 1:19:11 [Music] 1:19:21 ohen 1:19:37 I don't know about you but 1:19:45 uh there have been a few times that we've through years of time that we've 1:19:50 sensed the presence of God With Us that's right so I think this is one of 1:19:57 those times but 1:20:02 um you know I just wanted to just share a few things most of what I was going to 1:20:07 say has already been spoken okay and so that'll I'll just skip over those things 1:20:13 and hopefully uh this will only take a few moments but I just want to share a few things about Christine's 1:20:19 life you know one is that uh our funeral is preached by our life isn't 1:20:27 it and we've seen evidence of that but and brother Pat read the 1:20:34 passage on The Virtuous Woman a charm's dece people beauty is vain but a woman 1:20:40 who fears the Lord she shall be praised and you know I asked myself what made 1:20:47 the difference I mean why why is this place full why are there people ready to 1:20:53 give a testimony why is it people from from 35 years ago to the very kids in 1:21:00 Sunday school class why what made such a difference in that woman's life you know 1:21:06 what could explain that kind of an impact on so many people over such a 1:21:12 cross-section of time and cross-section of different types of people you know what is it that could make such an 1:21:19 impact and you know I have to I have to say that 1:21:26 uh we would think that anything done in the flesh is not going to last is it you 1:21:33 know and the Bible tells us if we live according to the flesh we will die that 1:21:38 simply means if we live for ourselves we live for our personal 1:21:44 Ambitions you know we are going to die in other words there won't be any spiritual impact that's going to be 1:21:51 lasting here or in eternity but if we live according to the spirit we will 1:21:57 live okay and that's exactly what we see in her life there was nothing as I've 1:22:04 thought this over there's nothing fleshly about that woman you know in other words you know from the time she 1:22:11 came here you know she stayed with us uh for a couple weeks when she first came 1:22:17 okay my kids were like my oldest ones were 10 8 and six 1:22:23 and we we've discussed we have family conferences on Sunday evenings after 1:22:28 church and this kind of thing and we were talking about her and what what do the kids remember about her from the 1:22:35 first time that they met her staying in our house well it's interesting that it 1:22:41 wasn't her flashy clothing okay I think nobody here would stand up and say she was the most flashy dressed person that 1:22:49 you've ever met okay matter of fact you never you didn't notice her clothing other than it was a little maybe a 1:22:55 little odd at first and then you you get past that because you don't even see her clothing anymore you see her and you 1:23:03 know the kids were remembering that uh you know when it was probably 55 degrees 1:23:09 she's wearing a heavy coat she came from the Bahamas right and she was a missionary there for a number of years 1:23:15 and so anything less than 55 was like freezing to her okay and she would 1:23:21 always wear ear muffs and so ear muffs and heavy coats okay that's what my kids 1:23:26 remember about and constantly uh uh doing something arranging they remember 1:23:32 they she took you know she had time while brother Pat was probably working or something and um she'd take the 1:23:39 clothes out of their drawers and put contact paper in the bottom she did she was just arranging organizing doing 1:23:46 something constantly and so you know I was thinking you know the Bible tells us 1:23:52 therefore we do not lose heart even though our outward man is perishing yet the inward man is renewed day by day 1:23:58 while we do not look at things which are seen but the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are 1:24:04 temporary they're temporal but the things which are not seen are Eternal 1:24:10 and that was the case I think God used her uh to demonstrate the way God thinks 1:24:18 and that is that God has designed his relationship with man to be exactly opposite of what fleshly human beings 1:24:25 would think he says he says for you see your calling Brethren that not many wise 1:24:32 according to the flesh not many mighty not many noble are called but God ha 1:24:37 chosen the foolish things of the world uh to put to shame the wise God has 1:24:43 chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are Mighty and the base things the world to and the 1:24:49 things which are despised God has chosen the things which are not to bring to nothing the things which are that no 1:24:56 flesh should glory in his presence she was the perfect picture of 1:25:02 that but of him you are in Christ Jesus who became for us wisdom from God and 1:25:08 righteousness and sanctification and Redemption but as it is written he who glories him glory in the Lord and so 1:25:16 just as Christine is a good example to us we have a choice in this world to live for the things this world that are 1:25:23 going to pass away the second that we stop breathing or the world burns up it we'll all be lost or we can die to S and 1:25:31 live for others and live to do the will of God someone wrote only one life will 1:25:37 soon be passed only What's Done For Christ will last you know I think of um 1:25:43 I've told people about this but I think if there's any blessing in our church if 1:25:49 God used me in any way you know I think when I I get to heaven what'll happen is 1:25:54 I'll find out that it wasn't you what was happening was the Lans were praying 1:25:59 for you okay and I know that they were I know that Christine prayed brother Pat 1:26:05 prays David Joseph they pray for me through the years and if there's any 1:26:12 reason why God has blessed our church it's probably because they prayers and the prayers of others like them but it's 1:26:19 it's the impact that she was able to make through things like prayer and 1:26:25 through things like giving you know I remember uh when when she first 1:26:34 came here uh brother Pat had had met her a couple times but they basically written 1:26:40 letters and had never been around each other that much and so she was staying with us as she was getting to know 1:26:46 brother Pat and various things and and I don't know if brother Pat remembers this 1:26:53 but he was having cold feet okay he was saying I don't know if she's the right person or not you know and uh katerie 1:27:01 Tower heard that brother Pat was having a consternation she came to me and she 1:27:07 says Pastor R she is the right person do 1:27:13 whatever you have to do to make sure brother Pat marries that woman okay and 1:27:18 so I don't know if it was love at first sight for brother Pat but it was was love at first sight for our whole church 1:27:24 okay it generally was and so I don't know if my my encouragement or cies made 1:27:30 any difference but you know I appreciate brother Pat's love for his wife when the 1:27:35 hospital he described her as the love of his life and so just in 1:27:42 finishing you know I think Chris's life compels us to ask two questions one is are you living for this 1:27:50 world or for the kingdom of of God she was a constant but silent Giver you know 1:27:56 it's it's the supernatural life I mean she had nothing I mean the Lans you know 1:28:03 they have enough to live they have a house that they live in but no one's going to accuse them of being wealthy 1:28:08 okay they have nothing and yet she was constantly giving constantly had to give 1:28:15 to other people just the right thing at the time that they needed it and so God 1:28:22 as as I think brother Ed mentioned that she was like a a conduit you know and 1:28:29 that's exactly true you know thousands of cards thousands of dollars the time 1:28:35 it takes I mean I don't write many cards but it takes time to write even just a phrase a statement and then to I just 1:28:43 hate mailing letters you know to write the address on putting you know that 1:28:48 just takes time doesn't it in our fast moving society and yet she did that for thousands and thousands of of letters 1:28:55 and cards over the years so I don't know if she was what an What U Hebrews 13 1:29:02 calls an angel unawares but I think she was and so you know I think of another 1:29:09 verse in Acts chapter number nine where uh this woman named Dorcas died and 1:29:14 Dorcas was someone that was a a person that had uh she was apparently a 1:29:20 seamstress or whatever and she so people's clothes and and made clothes for them or fixed their clothes or 1:29:26 whatever she did and there were a lot of people that were broken and of course Peter comes and and ultimately heals her 1:29:33 raises her from the dead but basically uh everyone was showing the the gifts 1:29:39 and the clothes and the other things that Dorcas had done and so out here in the lobby all the cards you know you see 1:29:47 all the pictures all the things that uh that are result of her life and she was 1:29:52 a conduit of blessing to others you know I can't help but think a number of times I would be visiting someone that would 1:29:59 be uh sick or or I remember CLA Bean for example so you don't know her but she 1:30:06 had a severe accident and so uh she was laid up for a number of months and so I 1:30:12 was over visiting in their house and who should show up knock on the door here's 1:30:17 uh Christine bringing Maria tulus with her and and Claire was just so 1:30:23 encouraged by that you know I'm thinking you know I didn't tell her to do that or 1:30:29 anything else but the impact of her visiting and how that helped our church 1:30:35 this kind of thing I remember going to a nursing home uh 1:30:42 there was a family that came here for many years but uh Ethel Violet was 1:30:47 probably in bed in a nursing home maybe for 20 years over the last 20 years of her life long after people forgot about 1:30:54 her you know I would be maybe go up every now and then and visit and and 1:31:02 would come the lanss you know and just she would be encouraged and strengthened 1:31:07 and picked up you know the the Lans have been such a lovers of the 1:31:13 unlovely the uh those remembering those who are forgotten who are helpless you 1:31:19 know people that are the down and outers those are the ones that the liion have 1:31:24 loved and I just think you know that God does 1:31:30 not forget our work and labor of love which we have shown toward his name and so the question would be what are you 1:31:37 doing to lift up the weak the sick the discouraged the old the helpless the unlovely who are you discipling you know 1:31:45 I just I can't help but think that she was a disciplemaker you know cuz here's here's Maria truus who was here with 1:31:51 with us today and Chris was a great encourager to her and then Nancy Weber 1:31:58 who now has taken over some of her Sunday school class and Nancy I go to the same gym that Nancy does and she 1:32:04 talked to me for 30 minutes the other day telling me how Chris had encouraged her and kind of tricked her she said you 1:32:10 won't have to do anything and now she's teaching the class right and so but but 1:32:16 she was she has that ability to disciple and encourage and strengthen and second 1:32:21 and last you know her life shows the need to be saved and I would say that if there's any evidence that there is that 1:32:29 God is real maybe you heard today and you say I don't know whether there's a God or if there isn't a God how else 1:32:36 would you explain the impact of a woman that has no resources that had no flash 1:32:43 no Glitz or glamour and yet look at the impact of this one woman's life how can you explain that there has to be a god 1:32:50 that is real and I would encourage you if you have never trusted Christ to be saved trust him Jesus said I am the way 1:32:58 the truth and life no man comes to the father but by me and in verse that I 1:33:03 think is an encouraged one it says in John 647 most this is Jesus talking most 1:33:09 assuredly I say to you he who believes in me has everlasting life and so if you 1:33:16 have not trusted Christ place your faith in him trust him to be your savior from 1:33:21 sin in but let's just bow for prayer our gracious Heavenly Father we do thank you 1:33:27 for the life of Christine and yet Lord we know that the bigger picture is that 1:33:34 you used her you are God and you have a purpose for each one of our lives and 1:33:39 father we pray that you'll help each one of us to surrender to you in the way 1:33:45 that you would have us to and as saved people Lord I pray that you'll help us to be willing to expend ourselves to not 1:33:52 live a life of the flesh fleshly selfish uh impulses but Lord to live for others 1:33:59 and to live for you and Lord I pray that if there is someone that is not saved here today please let them make that 1:34:05 simple decision of humbling themselves and admitting that they're lost and that they can't save themselves but trusting 1:34:12 you as their only hope of Salvation and we thank you for that in Jesus name we 1:34:17 pray amen so I forgot what 1:34:25 [Music] 1:34:32 is shall I take from your hand your 1:34:38 blessings yet not welome any 1:34:43 pain shall I thank you for days of 1:34:49 sunshine yet grum B in days of 1:34:54 rain shall I love you in times of 1:35:00 Plenty then leave you in days of Dr shall I trust when I reap a 1:35:11 harvest but when winter winds blow then 1:35:16 doubt oh let your will be done chance to 1:39:02 give for there ain't no time for wasting no man 1:39:09 knows the final day I'm going to 1:39:15 live live for Jesus he's the life 1:39:21 in the way look to the Cross where they afterward for Fellowship light refreshments and more 1:45:00 testimonies and last before everyone leaves brother Pat wanted to finish with a special 1:45:11 song before I got married I was actually the choir leader um but I had this 1:45:19 practice of making you think about the song When We sang it because so many 1:45:27 times we get just get into a rut and we sing and we don't think about the words we just wait till we get through the 1:45:33 song kind of like we pray the Lord's Prayer in two minutes you know it's done it's done you just W 1:45:41 but every songwriter has a message you should be paying attention to 1:45:47 it and uh I just want us to leave with a song that you may or may 1:45:53 not know but if you've been here for any time you know it well and I just want us to
