Review
Summary: redeeming the time, (the ETERNAL God REQUIRES this) for the days are evil, (Righteousness is at stake) number our days (Our time is extremely limited), make straight paths (A narrow, disciplined walk is implied). Balance comes only by KNOWING and EXERCISING priorities: THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. IT PRODUCES THE GREATEST SATISFACTION OF LIFE AND WILL YIELD THE GREATEST REWARDS IN HEAVEN, AND LEAVES THE GREATEST LEGACY FOR MY CHILDREN. But it is also something God teaches us, and we (through time) must learn! Introduction
1 Timothy 5:22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure. Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. GL 5.22-23;1 CO 9.27; PR 25.28
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 1 Cor. 9:27 But I discipline [keep under, AV] my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. Proverbs 25:28 Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. Some Personal Applications: Physical drives: Food, Sex, Sleep: These 3 are normal drives for human life, but are safely practiced only in certain contexts. 1D.) Over- or under-eating, 2D.) sexual practices outside of a monogamous heterosexual marriage, and 3D.) over- or under-sleeping all bring serious negative consequences to life as God planned it to be when these things are done by the human will. Physical Needs: (4D.)Exercise The Physical Needs of Life and How to Pray About Them
Scripture: Proverbs 27:7 A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. – Don’t eat just to satisfy a sense of hunger. Instead, stop eating just before you are satisfied. Learn what amounts make you comfortable of the different kinds of foods you eat. (The food is delayed in sending it’s nutrition, or energy, to the body while digestion takes place!)Proverbs 25:16 Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, Lest you be filled with it and vomit. God actually gives specific instructions governing when and when not to eat for everyone, and unique additions for Jewish people before the Law was fulfilled by Jesus the Messiah. *** See here Biblical Reasons When and When Not to FAST. Application: Any sexual expression/ stimulation is to be the object of my mate's desire for my body, and hers/his for mine - mutual only gratification exclusively each dependent on the other. This effectively eliminates justification for all masturbation, and any thoughts that lead to such physical pleasures, as excluded from God's will at any time apart from being in the presence of and centered upon my spouse. Those who are unmarried have no excuse for thoughts except as Jesus referred to as "fornication." The only legitimate outlet for the sexual act for a single Christian’s life is what is commonly some call "wet dreams" the subconscious dream state not induced by sinful forethoughts of the waking day/days before! Anything else will bring a guilt of conscience from God which effectively removes peace from a believer’s life, and the resulting fear of judgment from God Himself. 1 Corinthians 7: 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
