Tuesday Bible Study Notes Westside Care Center Tuesday, December 18, 2007Prayer Principle 6A. Resolution 3B. Protection – Armor of God–1C. Belt of Truth
Review PRESERVATION by GRACE – I believe that You will give me the necessary GRACE (help) to be victorious throughout life. The God of all grace will provide abundance to overcome and bring victory in testing/ temptation's midst; we must Possess God's GRACE by faith. 2 Cor. 9:8 – And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 1 Peter 5:10 – Part of that grace is described as Christ's intercessory work being done for us in the present tense of life today!Heb 4: 14 -16 – Christ intercedes for us in heaven now at the Father’s right Hand. From The Prayer Notebook But deliver us from the evil one. 1PE 3.7; 1 JN 2:15; RO 8.7;6.13; EP 4.24 3B. PROTECTION by ARMOR – I acknowledge now my need for deliverance from all evil: (From Satan, the World, and from my sinful Flesh) by putting on Your armor. I now put on... I am to recognize it is spiritual WARFARE. My enemies will not stop until destruction of my soul/ loss of all spiritual reward is lost. Using armor is my responsibility, grace is God's provision. Armor is placed first by putting on the new man. Note: The following verses and comments introduce our readers to "Biblical Theological Principles." These are marvelous deeper ways of understanding the Bible– by studying individuals and how they understood Bible doctrine as it had been revealed to them in their day, and then comparing their understanding with others who wrote the Bible. After you have been grounded in the basics of Bible and its theology, begin a study like this suggests. It deepens your Christian life and will deepen the power of your prayer life as well. 1 Peter 5:8 [Peter's {Biblical} Theology - from mercy, not unbending absolutes like John's] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16] For all that is in the world– the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life– is not of the Father but is of the world. [17] And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. Romans 6:13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Ephes. 4:24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 6:10-18 14a)Having girded your waist with truth,
James 1:16, 22 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. [22] But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Acts 20:32 So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Defining "truth" 225 alhyeia aletheia al-ay'-thi-a – from 227; TDNT-1:232,37; n f – AV-truth 107, truly + 1909 1, true 1, verity 1; 110 – 1) objectively 1a) what is true in any matter under consideration 1a1) truly, in truth, according to truth 1a2) of a truth, in reality, in fact, certainly 1b) what is true in things appertaining to God and the duties of man, moral and religious truth 1b1) in the greatest latitude 1b2) the true notions of God which are open to human reason without his supernatural intervention 1c) the truth as taught in the Christian religion, respecting God and the execution of his purposes through Christ, and respecting the duties of man, opposing alike to the superstitions of the Gentiles and the inventions of the Jews, and the corrupt opinions and precepts of false teachers even among Christians 2) subjectively 2a) truth as a personal excellence 2a1) that candour of mind which is free from affection, pretence, simulation, falsehood, deceit Why is it called a belt?
The Contrast of the Truth. We understand what truth is when we compare it to its opposite: the LIE. (Review last week’s contrast study of "The Truth and The Lie") The Material of the Belt of truth. Practically speaking, being able to identify truth is a protection. That kind of knowledge prevents and discourages us from doing things that are not wise. Not knowing what is foolish can never keep us from foolish acts. The Priority of the Belt of Truth This is the first piece of armor mentioned, thus it is likely first in its importance. It is a circle when buckled– thus it is the same all around in it’s ability to protect us. Did God intend to communicate all of these things when He inspired Paul to call it our "waist gird about" with it? Application:
Pr 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, 2Ti 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. Tit 1:13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, Tit 2:15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. |
