2nd Report to Praying Folk
January 23, 2010
Providenciales, TCI, BWI
Dear friends,
We'd like to give you our 2nd update, today,
9:20 AM 1/23/2010, Saturday morning.
The weather has lately warmed up to more of the Provo norm: above 75 and
sometimes it has reached to over 85 a few times. This scares me because I have
saved a weather page where Provo is next to CT on the page for comparison, and I
have already forgotten how cold 20 degrees is! What a shock we're in for come
Jan 30!
We have had an abundance of opportunities to serve the Lord. We are making
ourselves available for whatever the school and teachers wish to use us for.
These people are full of the love of the Lord. We are happy to meet and assist
them in this excellent school. We are especially grateful for the competence and
balance of Mrs. Harris. She is highly honoring her dad in the way she is
administrating this school.
Chris is visiting each of the 11 classes (185 students total) one each day. She
is learning a lot about each class, teacher, and needs. We are getting by with
the apartment, and the school provides a simple noon meal for the students for
$1-2 each. She is cooking for us each evening unless something other comes up.
Our frig can only cool in the freezer and less than that in the main
compartment, so we must get our food every other day. The church 'deacon' has
allowed us free use of their brand new Dodge 2009 van, but Pat is VERY careful
to KEEP LEFT!!!
On Thursday, for All-School Devotions, the school honored her by officially
naming the library for her. Though the picture plaque and Door sign were not
ready yet (Monday or Tuesday), it was a very nice ceremony, but Pat will have
trouble downloading the 365MB movie online. If anyone has suggestions, please
email me -- wisesaver at yahoo dot com.
David has been brought over 10 laptops/ desktop computers to fix unless I
haven't counted the ones some said they intend to bring! As yes, some 'nasties'
are giving our anti-virus a run for the program's sake. He is setting up videos
anytime asked to do so in various settings. He gets hot quickly here as he
learned the hard way the first time around kids. They were all chasing him
around the school yard, but he got a severe headache within 5 minutes and does
little strenuously now. He is very happy and content here otherwise.
Joseph is keeping busy with some schoolwork Mom has asked him to do in Bible and
a few other things. He already fixed and aired up a teacher's daughter's bike.
He enjoys the youth activities at church and already has met some friends there.
The youth have not had a youth meeting for 2 years, and are now making up for
lost time while we're here. They have been coming every night except Wednesdays
to watch some of the many videos we've brought. They especially enjoy the Love
Comes Softly series by Michael Landon Jr.
Pat has been rising early to teach the prayer notebook at 6:30, then attending
class devotions; once for the combined 4-6 grades, once for the combined 1-3
grades, and soon the Kindergarten grades. The upper grades got a presentation of
his tract "Have You Ever Asked?" tract. He has been preaching for the church
since last Sunday Evening. He has taught the prayer notebook 2 or 3 times to
teacher's groups in the afternoons. He has just set up
www.provochristian.org website
and we will soon leave for a beach outing with the teen group. Pat has also
tried jogging once, but some dogs can be a pretty scary encounter doing that. He
has also tried to witness with folks who walk by along the street in the
mornings. Yesterday he met the man who lives West over the fence. There are a
surprising number of professing Christians here, but we all know that may or may
not be the case. But people here are very friendly. Another thing you don't see
is too much over eating. Food costs too much, so you eat the simple basics and
enjoy the rare delicacies much less often than in the states. Still some things
are on sale. Joseph was excited to find 20 oz bottles of Mountain Dew (TM) for
$.69 each. Even the 'belongers' acknowledged that was a deal. Pat took some
pictures of a store to share later.
Hope to do more later. Please pray for God's help in Sunday Services. To put it
in a nutshell, we're overwhelmed and VERY THANKFUL TO GOD.
Love In Christ,
Br. Pat for all us Lanyons
