January, February & March, 1999 The Connecticut Lanyon Email NEWSLETTERDear Friends, We’d like to thank you for the honor it is to know you and that you care about us. Knowing folks pray for us is one of the most precious thoughts we have. Since we have entered the new opportunities afforded by the computer generation, we are anxious to communicate with many of our friends around the world. We pray for many families we know who also keep us informed with their ministries by at least an annual newsletter. We are excited about what you are doing for the LORD on the far flung fields of the world! May the LORD greatly and richly bless you. I received a special blessing from 2 Timothy 2:20. It reads But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood, hay and of stubble; some for honor, and some for dishonor. If a man cleanse himself from the latter, he shall be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and useful for the Master. Prepared for every good work. I am especially focusing on the first part of the verse, especially the "great" house truth. God made each Christian a "great House" and yet an accountable house. It is surprising that stewardships God gives in the Bible are seldom given with instructions— at least detailed instruction as to how to use them. Such was the case with the talents, as well as here. Only the fact that the believer has a house with various types of abilities or ingredients. We must be reminded that God gives grace to accomplish all the things He desires us to do. Another blessing came from the passage in Exodus 32:1. It reads Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." I wrote in my Bible that this is a sign of the results of people NOT waiting on God, and of NOT remembering the goodness and miraculous works God has done. This is the mind set of today’s generation. We live in a society that demands constant attention and entertainment. This is largely due to the television, video player, and the computer, including the internet. We must pray that we will keep our eyes on the KINGDOM of GOD, and His RIGHTEOUSNESS. Joshua did wait on God, for we read that he stayed in the tabernacle, waiting on God: Exodus 33.11 So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.
March 13, 1999 9:03PM We just returned from the New England Leadership conference held at Trinity Baptist Church at Concord, New Hampshire. It is the 10th annual event, and thought Pat’s first and Chris’s second, many at Truth Baptist have gone every year. It is a time of reunion and fellowship in addition to excellent preaching. This year the featured speaker and musician were Bob Jones III, Bob Jones University President, and Ron "Patch the Pirate" Hamilton, both of Greenville, SC. Ron Hamilton has for 5 years refused to travel much, so seeing him was a special treat. He sang about 5 or 6 songs, presented his personal testimony about music and its ministry in life, and how his mother who loved singing and music so much, all her family "caught" her love for it. Bob Jones III preached 4 times, 2 of which were teaching sessions for the
conferences. The messages were all excellent, the singing was "worship" and
joyous, and a most pleasurable Christian event. The challenge was to live a good
example as a Christian leader, stand for truth, but be the salt of the earth out
in the world so as to evangelize it without succumbing to its deadly worldly and
hedonistic philosophy. It was a three hour drive from the Hartford Area. We were thankful to go, and we are thankful to have returned safely. May God bless you all. You may email us here or at CPLanyon@juno.com. |
