NT References to ‘the gift of God’

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Ac 8:20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!”

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

2Ti m 1:6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Dear Friends and Family,

“The Gift of God” – Christmas Giving’s Essence

The gift of God, we all seasonally recognize, is Jesus Christ’s coming to earth and becoming the full sacrifice for our sins– thus enabling us to have everlasting life in heaven. In ministering at the rest home (23 years now) I marvel at the character of this amazing gift each believer has received. The ‘gift of God’ is mentioned 7 times in various places in the Bible, and meditation on it’s virtues revealed to me 5 significant points worth keeping in mind.

1.   You can receive it: John 1:12

2.   You can give it away: John 4:41

3.   You benefit from giving it away: Phil 4:1 & 1 Th 2:19

4.   The ones receiving it from you benefit: 1 Thess. 1:5-7

5.   IT CAN BE "STIRRED UP" therefore we believe it MULTIPLIES as we spread it around, as Paul tells Timothy! 2Ti 1:5

OUR DEVASTATING STORM & Some 2011 Observations

Left: Google Pict: Before, break was at the yellow arrow

Right: After storm only 4 branches left whole tree

The big news this year was a snow storm that came October 28 dumping 5 -12 inches of snow. It came when over 75% of the leaves remained on the trees .You can only imagine what followed. Our power was out for 7 days. God was merciful though: 1. It happened when the temperature, though cold, was not often below freezing as would be if in January. 2. A church banquet scheduled that evening went on without serious interruption. (Though we had only 1 phase of three energized, with about 100 people present). We drove under fallen trees and lines to get there and back again: (while praying for safety) 3. Many people helped others that next week and many good Samaritans appeared like angels. The next day ,someone driving by stopped and cut for free our biggest tree that was in the road. The snow truck had moved it sideways on the road side, but it was too heavy to move out of the road before it was cut. 4. Christine was happy that we had plenty of food which kept well under the snow. A lady she helps gave us her food since she had no power. She also received stuffing and vegetables after the church banquet. We have a gas stove so cooking was not a problem. She even fed two families on two different days. 5. Halloween was cancelled because it was too dangerous to Trick-n-Treat. Massive areas of the region, however, look like a war zone and will continue to–- probably for months and even years in some remote areas. Now New England has had our third reminder this year [an earthquake, and Hurricane Irene also] of something all America and even the World is observing as revealed in this Associated Press clipping days ago:

With an almost biblical onslaught of twisters, floods, snow, drought and wildfire, the U.S. in 2011 has seen more weather catastrophes that caused at least $1 billion in damage than it did in all of the 1980s, even after the dollar figures from back then are adjusted for inflation.–The Associated Press (AP), Dec 8, 2011.

*After studying the history of America since 2000 we have concluded the horrible weather disasters this record year [12 events] are pointing out that the sin of our nation is approaching God’s intolerable level, thinking especially of Luke 13:4-5 "Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them [a natural catastrophe], do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." See also v.3. I really began noticing this after the 3-11-11 quake/ tsunami/ nuclear crises in Japan. While natural disasters do not necessarily single out unrighteousness in individuals or even nations, an abiding repentance principle always applies. If natural unprecedented disasters are because our people as a nation have not repented, we can answer only this: Time to Repent and get Revived! The individual answer is personal repentance — and that is done one-by-one beginning with me and you. America needs to face its problems and return that which was stolen, confess that which has been wrong and make a recompense. In truth we need a life-altering revival. I am giving ‘the Gift of God’ freely this next year. Hope you receive Him if you haven’t and then begin giving His Gift out too!

Joseph has been attending Pensacola Christian College for His First Half Year. After High School graduation, which even his Grandmother could attend, we helped him further prepare this summer for his move to FL for college. Everyone really missed Joseph when it was time to leave because he was so kind and helpful to everyone he knew at church and at school. He has been a very busy young man this year at home, church, and school. At home he faithfully kept our lawn mowed and clean. Joseph repaired bikes for others. At church he helped the Pastor cut grass , setup for the teen group, and discipled the teens there. At school he participated in sports and studied hard to graduate, receiving the coveted Christian Character Award at Hartford Christian Academy. Now in Pensacola he has begun a business management major with these courses: Accounting, Computer Science Introduction, Business Administration , English, History of Civilization ,and Introduction to the New Testament. Joseph is learning a lot more than academics. We were happy to have seen the campus and the spiritual emphasis there. It was a fascinating trip bringing him down, and in 10 days we traveled over 3200 miles visiting friends in Greenville, then Pensacola, Jacksonville, Haines City, and Tampa. All those visited were once attending Truth Baptist except for Mrs. Ernest Johnson from the Bahamas. Christine would love to see many of you again, but time and strength did not allow us at that time.

David is being used of God in his Help to Dad in Carpet Cleaning, entertaining kids, fixing computers or devices, practicing TaeKwonDo, and inviting people he knows to church. He is continuing his computer training for Microsoft Certification at http://www.e-learningcenter.com/ for at least another year. He also tested and received his Taekwondo brown belt [two from a black belt!] You may see more at: http://aprayernotebook.net/ctlanyons/david/ (Look for the Taekwondo link at the bottom of the page.) On Thanksgiving this year he ran again in the Manchester- 4.7 mile- Road Race. David loves to sing at our Rest Home Service and conducts a weekly computer lab now at the nursing home Bernie Meisler resided.

Chris loves cooking, card-making and sending, office book-keeping, teaching her 1st-2nd grade Sunday School Class, monthly volunteering in the nursery, and cleaning. She tended small petite gardens around our house this summer. She encourages two elderly ladies of the church weekly. In every way she exemplifies the woman in Proverbs 31, and her husband praises her!

Business continues declining, but God has faithfully provided our needs with new clients. Our carpet cleaning van has added new problems with the engine, but we keep on with our work between fixings.

We bought a 2006 Ford Freespirit All Wheel Drive from a dedicated Christian to replace our aging Caravan, and as a favor to her. It took some surprise costs to get it road worthy, at 68,000 miles.

We REJOICE for the blessing God has shown us through taking more time to hallow His name. Pat has especially appreciated the book “You are the Treasure of my Heart...” It points out our materialism and highly distracted life-styles of the day!

— Love in Christ, Pat, Christine; David & Joseph
