‘God is Free’, 13th of 14

Character Attribute #13C Freedom
Review : God is Truth> He conforms
to actuality or reality – to a perfect and true standard.
The Freedom of God’s Character
-- In Relation to Prayer to Him
God is Freedom – Independence from all His creatures.
Scripture teaching this attribute: IS 40.13,14
13C. Free (One bound by none)
Isaiah 40:13-14
Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has
taught Him? [14] With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him,
And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him
the way of understanding?
Definition: "the absence of slavery; the ability to do and go as one
desires," both physically and spiritually.
- 1. Only God has Absolute Freedom. Isaiah 40:13– 14 (Above)
- 2. Man does Not. The Old Testament World Operated in a Master – Slave
Economy. This type of society is not condemned by God in either the Old or
New Testament, but we see God expecting people to recognize when they are
not to be bound by the relationship. See Leviticus 25, and 27.
- 3. God Made Provision for Some Slaves Freedom in Certain Cases. This
Freedom Acknowledged the Importance and Value of the Family as God created
it.
- Lev 25.10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim
liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it
shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his
possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
- 4. We as Humans Live with A Sin-Nature that makes Us Slaves to an Evil
Master.
- Ro 6 Explains in detail: v. 6 Knowing this, that our old
man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed,
that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is
freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we
shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the
dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that
he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto
God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead
indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our
Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye
should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as
instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves
unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members
as instruments of righteousness unto God.
- NOTE THESE VERSES ESPECIALLY: 14 For sin shall not have dominion
over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then?
shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God
forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to
obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto
death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 18 Being then made free
from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 20 For when ye
were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 22 But now
being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have
your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
- 5. Spiritually Speaking, Jesus Described this Freedom as Being Set Free by
Knowing Truth. John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free. John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye
shall be free indeed.
- 6. Christians Have Glorious Freedom Like God. Ro 8:2 For the
law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from
the law of sin and death. 1 Corinthians 7:22 For he that is called in
the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is
called, being free, is Christ's servant.
- 7. Freedom Brings Unity. Col 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew,
circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but
Christ is all and in all.
- 8. We Can Continue In Freedom through obedience. Ga 5:1 Stand
fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us
free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Applications
- A. I should revere God because of His absolute Freedom. He has the right
to do as He pleases in my life. It should create in me a humbleness before
His presence.
- Exodus 3.5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes
from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
And: Isaiah 6.1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord
sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the
temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with
twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with
twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy,
holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. 4
And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the
house was filled with smoke. 5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am
undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of
a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of
hosts.
- B. I should promote the kind of Freedom that God Promotes.
- C. I can be free because the God of Truth has set me free from the
Lies of Satan.
- John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make
you free.
- D. In relation to prayer, I can pray without sin hindering my prayer
life.
