December, 1996

Dear Friends & Family,

It does not seem possible that soon 1996 will be history. The Lanyons have been blessed greatly by the Lord. Just as we have faced some struggles, so too have many of you. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Some amazing blessings we have received:

Chris has been given curtains, blankets, greeting cards, clothes, food and 2 couches. We love to share.

Pat asked for healing from several weeks of sickness in January and February, and was heard. A man attending faithfully in church began full time to work for me during the extended illness.

Pat has prayed and received unusual opportunities to witness while at work.

We have been blessed with some good workers for the cleaning business, as workers come and go for us. Some of the best workers have worked for us this year.

Now that most of my evening janitorial work has been employed out, I have gone more on visitation. Often I have suggested that folk I have witnessed to do a Bible Study of "Believing" in the gospel of John. Then I realized how much better it would be to write it out in a tract form. It contains a brief testimony of my salvation in the summer of 1972. A church in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, to which Truth Baptist gave 2 printing presses, is willing to print the tract. I have gone to see their work, and it is a blessing to see others serving the Lord using the gifts and talents and callings from the Lord. This church feels strongly the need to print the Bible. I have written other tracts: One for Jewish evangelism and one for Christian Growth and Fellowship which I hope to get printed.

[65th wedding anniv pict here]

Back in Colorado my brother, Gary, is a real servant to Dad and Mom Lanyon in Denver. They are both in the same nursing home. They have both resided in nursing homes since early 1993. We are proud of the long and enduring stamina of Christian parents who raised not one but TWO families. This year they celebrated their 62nd wedding Anniversary on May 22. My oldest brother, Bill, has done with exceeding excellence the duty of executor. He and Jean carefully monitor all the financial aspects for Dad and Mom. I feel like I've done so little for them except to pray!

I continue to serve as church clerk, and lead the Sunday and Wednesday evening church services singing. I decided to spend time on visitation each week, either at the nursing home or for church/ business/ personal contacts.

Chris does the church calendar, works in the nursery, and teaches the Primaries (Grades 1 & 2 ) now for Sunday School. We work together cleaning the church and passing out tracts and fliers. We also host folks for Sunday dinners. We try to reach new folks in the church.

This year some missionaries have visited us in our home as they passed through New England. One family in our church heard we had our name on the BIMI list, and asked if they could be on it as well! The Christians in Truth Baptist Church are some of the strongest and fruitful believers I have known.

Chris home schools David. He is well on his way now into 2nd grade. He loves to read, and knows how to play chess. He learned to play the game on our computer. He also sings in "Joyous Singers of Truth," a children's choir in church.

Joseph loves to play with his brother. He also, like David, loves to read, and runs to get the children's devotional book and Bible when we have family devotions.

Chris' mother is hoping to come up for Thanksgiving a few days with her daughter Mary Ann. Later for Christmas, plane tickets have been purchased for her and her other daughter, Vicki, to visit us for a couple of weeks. Vicki is an instructor at Defiance College (Ohio) in computer Technology. Mary needs prayer for her deteriorating health. She has lost sight from one eye. Her head and knees give pain even in the night. But her greatest joy is to visit two grandchildren, and she is a great joy to have in Connecticut. Even the folks at TBC are eager to see her come!

May God bless and guide you as you seek to bring glory to His name.

Love in Christ,

Pat, Christine, David, and Joseph Lanyon

The Law of the Lord Is ALL We Need

Psalm 19: 7-11

7 ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul:

the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart:

the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever:

the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold:

sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned:

and in keeping of them there is great reward.
