Thanks to God for His Goodness

Dear Friends,

We write with grateful hearts as we thank God for His goodness to us. Thank you for each letter.

Visitors

We were delighted to have a Bahamian family spend their vacation here in Connecticut (The Fergusons stayed with us last year as well). This year we enjoyed a meal in our back yard on a picnic table under shady trees. All 7 thoroughly enjoyed it. What a blessing!

October brought to us a Bob Jones Univ. Ensemble student who plays the cello. Meredith Hoagland was very gracious and the boys loved her. She has a big heart for missions. She even knew Paula, daughter of Dave & Pat Christenson, one of our most beloved missionaries in Puebla, Mexico.

Home Projects top

Wallpaper came down and paint went up in our kitchen. We now have a light yellow and white kitchen with a nice wallpaper trim in the middle. It is so encouraging to us to see a brand new shiny blue vinyl tile floor. Chris found a nice cabinet to support our new microwave.

Trips top

God granted us a few brief and yet enjoyable trips. In MAY we went to get Grandma Wise in Ohio. She wanted to be with David for his eleventh birthday on June 13.

While in Ohio we had a wonderful visit with former Pastor Kevin Rothaar, who married us 12 years ago in Bucyrus.

Another trip we enjoyed was the "overnighter" to Portland, ME in September. On the way we stopped to enjoy a beach for an hour on the coast en route. While Pat attended a regional conference for carpet cleaners, Chris and the boys found a children's museum. Chris was happy that it was only one block from Pat's meeting. We next enjoyed shopping in a discount store with many household items. Since the prices were low, Chris especially enjoyed it. She also found wallpaper border for only 50 cents each at a Salvation Army store next door.

Our Boys top

January was Joseph's 7th birthday. He is very sociable, but is easily content to play by himself. He loves nature, rocks, worms, water, and leaves. This year he learned in one afternoon to ride a bike (After Dad kept telling him he could!).

David's birthday in June was good as well. Not only did he have a party with church kids, but his Aunt Mary and two cousins, along with a woman she is discipling all came up for 3 days. (Four boys in a bedroom full of toys is VERY EXCITING! ) Grandma went home then, but the boys learned to love UNO after the visit. Now our Uno deck is worn out!

Both boys love to listen to all the children's programs on the radio including (but not limited to): A Visit with Aunt Bee, Adventures in Odyssey, Patch the Pirate, Adventures in Music, Stories of Great Christians, and Ranger Bill. He also likes Unshackled.

Every July our entire church develops their own original Vacation Bible School for a week. The theme this year was "God Bless America." Memorable assembly skits and church-wide decorations adorn the whole event. It culminated with a Sunday evening program which was well attended by lost parents. On display this year was one of the favorite crafts made by our boys class: patriotic kites.

David went to church camp in Stafford Springs for the second year in a row in July. Chris went daily to help with a craft. David has really grown-up in this experience, and his counselors noticed it. He learned to take cold showers each night, and this year there were 2 coyotes (because campers took food into their tents not heeding the rules). Each year we can count on rain to toughen up all campers!

Three boys in our family love to ride bikes. The 2 ½ mile trip to church is anticipated each week that weather permits. Two new 21 speed bikes with generator lights add to the enjoyment. Even Joseph is learning to ride David's old 10 speed which has a generator light too.

Business Ministry top

Pat now cleans in many of the same homes he went door-knocking in June, 1980 during church planting for Truth Baptist. And the pleasure of a great job done cleaning their carpets fully prepares them now to graciously receive his tract written in 1996. It is entitled "A Simple Bible Study on Believing" -- the testimony of his salvation in the summer of 1972 coupled with suggestions for a Bible study in John to gain assurance of eternal life.

A sequel tract incorporating his Prayer Notebook Outline and entitled "After You Believe" is awaiting printing and will be useful as well. He has seen some first copies read in the nursing home where he preaches monthly. All can be viewed on our business web site glorycarpetcleaning.com which Pat uses extensively to inform customers with access to the Internet on all kinds of helpful information for cleaning.

Christine top

Chris loves to meet the needs of others. She can be seen before and after each service delivering birthday and anniversary cards, and bags of clothes and other goodies which have been given to her previously. She is found serving in the nursery monthly, in her primary Sunday school class weekly, and at banquets and fellowships.

She does not miss the biweekly ladies visitation, the monthly ladies' meetings, and the Sunday school teacher's meetings.

She is also busy each day: 1) teaching two grades at home: 2nd and 6th grades, 2) bookkeeping for a cleaning business, 3) washing clothes, 4)helping on church cleaning teams when needed, 5) shopping for food for a family of four and a neighbor now age 75.

With all this activity, attends the pains of growing older and the deterioration of joints in the body. But all is gratifying when the results come in. She is an irreplaceable component to our family, and everyone knows it.

The Conclusion top

When Pat graduated from seminary in 1983 he had no idea of what exactly lay ahead of him in CT. When Chris left one mission field (the British West Indies) to come to CT and marry she, as well, had no idea of what lay ahead of her. But we are all very grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lord in CT at Truth Baptist Church. God has graciously allowed us to do what we love to do while serving Him in an excellent church and to raise our family here also.

Sincerely yours in our Blessed Lord,
