‘God’s Spiritual Works’

Tuesday, June 27, 2006 Mr. C. Pat Lanyon

Review:

God’s Works – the second way hallow God’s Name is to show thanks to God, and the works He does.

Note the focus on His Works given in Psalm 111: v.1 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. 2 The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. 3 His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. 4 He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion. 5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant. 6 He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. 7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. 8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. 9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

And Now a Focus on the Spiritual Works from last week, the first two spiritual blessings ...

Applications (1C. For Spiritual Blessings) "You give me ." (God's ACTIVITY)

1. Salvation. Take time to be especially thankful that you have become a Christian, and that you know that you will be in heaven when you die, that you can know for sure about your salvation; and then remember how God has preserved your spiritual life, your testimony:

A. Salvation of Soul – from hell

B. Salvation of Life – No Lost Testimony

From the Prayer Notebook:

2 CO 9.15 1E. of Soul (Eternal) Your "day" of Salvation: _____/______/ _______

2 Cor. 9:15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable [kjv has unspeakable ] gift!

[this must clearly point to Paul’s referring to a Christian’s Salvation from Hell because he mentions many speakable spiritual blessings the Corinthians were manifesting in all of chapter 9. See the song: Holy, Holy Is What The Angel’s Sang- and see also:

1Pe 1:6ff; esp v. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.]

JA 1.21 2E. of Life (Testimony) date of a Time You could have Lost yours: ___/ _____/ ______

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. [The context of this passage for the word save is clearly not spoken to unsaved people –

James 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. 2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers (various) temptations;

– failure to resist strong temptations will most assuredly cause you to lose your soul’s earthly testimony.]

[See Separate Sheet on "The Names of God" for this entry.]

2. Revelation of God. [IS 7.14; MAT 1.23; IS 9.6]

JN 14.9 1E. of Yourself

John 14:9

Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Thank God that

a. He has, in truth, revealed Himself to us, and that that revelation has included more:

PP 2.13;PS 115.3; PS 25.12 2E. of Your will

Philip. 2:13

for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Psalm 115:3

But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.

Psalm 25:12

Who is the man that fears the LORD? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.

God teaches in His own unique way for each individual!

[b. It includes knowing His will, and understanding that He has a plan in mind for your life, and...]

1 TI 1.12 3E. of Your call

1 Tim. 1:12

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,

[c. That He actually calls men to special service for His works on earth which they can know.]

JN 17.17 4E. of Your Word

John 17:17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

[d. Most of all we can know His recorded revelation: His Word, the Bible. Consider what a privilege we are able to know God through His written Word !]
